Tumley Lofts Stud Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 Yep try and change the time you let them out by 30 min as they will hang around and wait. Be as erratic as possible. Good luck

Guest TIMBARRA LOFTS Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 I do understand these BOP are a pain guys , i had trouble myself and its not nice, but they are protected under law and alot of guys on here talk about catching them and shooting etc , do you guys not realise RSPB and RSPCA monitor this site from time to time ?? They are probably monitoring or just waiting to prosecute someone. i think it best if nothing is said, I sorry to hear of things like this BOP are a pain but here to stay i am affraid, its hard guys. all the best spencer
Guest vining45 Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 when asked by a rspb member what would you do if a hawk went in to your pigeons? suppose u try to kill it. friend replyed no i`d clip it claws and trim it`s beak then let it go
dazza Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 2 attempted strikes in 20 mins yesterday - fortunately i saw it coming both times and managed to put it off. I find i spend more time watching out for these bloody things than managing the lofts at the moment!

Its a predator and it would suffer a slow death. I hope someone from Animal welfare does not see these posts!!! :-/
REDROCKET Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 the crow will be the first warning when a hawks in the area but it'll eat the pigeon if the hawk leaves it we cant win. we've already been hit with the perigrin.
Roland Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 Saw an article in last weeks BH about Crows looking after their territory. Well I guess any help, no matter how little is a help. Had the crows here... as soon as the s/h got peeved off he / she removed them. Then like Bill Butterfields, he fed the to keep them around too.... till they ended up killing his y/b's. Next you will be believing that as Merlin chase of Ketrals and kesters Sparrow hawks.... It just doesn't happen. Yes they mobb, like they do the harmless 'Red Kite' full stop, when they get peeved of, hawks etc. make crows just another sauce in the food chain. No two ways about that.

Yes but all the comotion lets you and the birds know there is something about. Every little helps.
ally mac Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 I have been hit daily the last week. I bought an orange flashing light and put it on the ground in front of tthe loft. Had 15 ybs out tonight picking around and others flying aand no sign of the hawk. Hope its not just coincidence but read last week that it can work. Fingers crossed. Al.
