Guest stb- Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 every loft should have one AH a lobster pot, ;D
Guest bakes Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 thats because i fly falcons mate so i know what one is lol what would you say took it then mick as thats the same as everythink ive had killed by sparrow hawk neck gone and breast gone as well.
billt Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 So its harder to catch a seagull than a small bird..?? The musket is quite small, would never attempt something the size of a gull
frank-123 Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 thats not correct i know of some doo men who lost a pigeon to a cock sparrowhawk
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 So in your expert opinion.. what has killed the saegull..??
mick Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 could of been a gos , pere anything but certainly wouldnt say a sparrowhawk
billt Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 billit would you or wouldnt you say even a female would struggle to hold that seagull Yes I would I've never heard of it, perhaps it was a poorly gull
Guest stb- Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 It looks a very small gull, not your normal that you get outside mc donalds ;D
mick Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 Yes I would I've never heard of it, perhaps it was a poorly gull [/quote could of been
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 Yip a small gull.. and its been killed exactly the way a sparrowhawk would kill it..
mick Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 most birds of prey kill the same eat the neck and breast so tell me whats the way a sparrowhawk kills thats different from other birds of prey
Guest stb- Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 only difference is sparrow hawk normally strips where it catches bigger birds normally take to there stripping post or ledge thats all , they eat the same way,
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 Just cant see a percy having to resort to killing a gull.. And do Goshawks not hunt mammals more.. and kill birds thru being teratorial..??
mick Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 wouldnt say that any other bird of prey would be carrying it off something the size of a pigeon etc yeah they could
mick Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 a pere will normally take the easier option if its avalible
billt Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 only difference is sparrow hawk normally strips where it catches bigger birds normally take to there stripping post or ledge thats all , they eat the same way, Yeh agree with that, gos kills and takes, the s/hawk eats where it catches, until it's light enough to carry off
Tenny Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 it looks morelike an albino crow to me. The legs look to thin to be a seagull i thught?
just ask me Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 Just cant see a percy having to resort to killing a gull.. And do Goshawks not hunt mammals more.. and kill birds thru being teratorial..?? goshawks are the ultimate killer can do both check the net mate lots on there of them killing birds have seen them take wood pigeons with ease there becoming a lot more common and i think they will cause more of a problem the falcon or sparrow hawk the goshawks i seen killing hunted the birds like a lurcher on a rabbit
Guest Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 It is a Black-Headed Gull, the smallest of the British Gulls and weighs 250 to 400 grams/8 to 14 ounces. Not too heavy for a Sparrowhawk.
blaz Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 looks like a tern to me small enough for possibly a female sparrow hawk.more than lightly a perigrin falcon or a goshawk.which ever it was you can bet your bottom dollar racing pigeons are on it,s menu. if it is in middle of a park you can discount fox or cat as both would not go to open ground to start striping their meal .
jimmy_bulger Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 looks like a female percy attack to me
Shortcut Lofts Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 I have witnessed in the last week a Peregrine take a sea gull!!
boxer Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 down here in west wales the percy loves a seagull and everything else but looking at the picture it does look like a sparrow hawk {female} i would say the male would b to small to kill that. but those gulls are only the same size as the female s hawk
chickadee Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 It was a black headed gull, they weigh between 200-400grammes, easy prey for most BOP
blaz Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 the one on the left is a gull billed tern.the other probably a brown headed tern. the Black-headed Gull (Larus ridibundus) picture is not on this thread
