les Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 read about it in this weeks BHW ,it just shows that we are not ever going to be taken seriously ,why did they have to use live pigeons for the research ,it shows that the RSPB are nothing but a uncareing bunch ,so why should we listen to what ever they have to say ,just do the right thing and sort any probs with BOP your self ,after all it works .

I think what the report means is that they had to wait till the sparrowhawk had made a kill and then the body was used to bait the trap. They were not allowed to tempt the sparrowhawk into the trap using a live bird as bait seperated by a divider inside the Larsen trap. That part of the report is not very clearly worded.
Guest IB Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 No live pigeons baited the trap. Scottish Government and SNH wouldn't allow SHU to do that. Its illegal and it's also cruel - you may remember the 'Wildlife Police' programs on TV a few years back, mostly about a Kelso gamekeeper. He was convicted of cruelty as he was caught with a live pigeon in a trap. Pigeon tore off part of its wing trying to get out, and had to be destroyed.

Roland Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 When the general RPRA manage was press as to why they were having the 'Hawk' located and logged he reply was simply 'To let any new starter, especially the younger generation where the best Locations were to set up! :-/ :-/ And presumably where the worst were!!! :o Indeed the actaul fact is, was, is and will continue to be codswallops and totally useless. When asked if the RPRA would help those in bad location to move to better locations he politely ended the conversation forth with and hung up. Mind he has no pigeons to fly!

Son - in - law had a debate at the 'Country Fair' with the man flying the Peregrine. It took of and caught a pheasant about 50 yards away. Couldn't do nothing about it or get it to come back till it had eaten it's head. Said they never give up on a chance to eat a Pheasants head etc. Like a fox will.

Well if only Les... If only fanciers gave 2% of effert they do whinging, to actually giving a pinch of salt / sheep dip eh! Gosh this time next year there wouldn't be a B.O.P. problem ... Well not for the pigeons and fanciers lol ;D ;D ;D
