Guest cosmic dave Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 I picked up my birds on Wednesday and since then I have spent every five minutes chasing cats off. I lost one bird yesterday, it went on the loft roof and within 30 secs a cat whipped over the top an went for the bird. It got away but I haven't seen it since will the cats loose some interest when the realise the cant get into the loft ? I was thinking of putting barb wire round the loft roof so at least the cats will think twice before jumping up there :-/ :-/ :-/ I am going out for the day today and am worried about leaving the trap open (with the entrance blocked) so the birds get some daylight. David
greenlands Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 Cats won't loose interest untill you give them a reason to,there are allsorts of things on the market that are legal and some that aren't.Ultra sonic repellants, cat powder are to name just a couple, they don't like water if you have a hose handy. You'll never race pigeons when you have cat problems, sort it mate. Lindsay.
grizzal Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 dont leave your traps open m8 even if blocked ,also read up on the electric fences and get one,

THE FIFER Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 also the black garden mesh is handy to put round your garden,
cowman Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 i had this problem with my neighbours cat last year spoke to them and went round and got the cat held it up and showed it the birds then dropped the cat into a bucket of water let the cat get out on its own he will run and never come back again mind you after that the cat did move down the road to the nursing home ;D ;D
soapy Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 stop pussying about and get yerself a cat box
Guest thunderbird Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 put carpet gripper around edge of roof and along the fence they wont be back???
Guest mick bowler Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 Go careful when cats are in your garden, never leave a container of anti freeze in your garden, for some reason cats love it but does them no good at all. I mistakenly did this and it killed my old neighbours cat.
Roland Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 Just buy an Eletric fence for £70 or less and have done with it! www.countrystoredirect are good and next day deliver. About 36 a year to run off a transformer ... or a 'Car Battery charger, and they are less than a tenner now.
soapy Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 why pay 70 quid for an electric fence and pay £36 to keep it running u can rattle up a cat box with a bit of scrap ply wood in a couple of hours, only takes the price of a tin of tuna fish to get the culprit .you can then relocate it wherever you want to, no crime commited
Guest bernard_grizzle_smith Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 lol that is a good idea and much cheaper !!
Guest chrisss Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 why pay 70 quid for an electric fence and pay £36 to keep it running u can rattle up a cat box with a bit of scrap ply wood in a couple of hours, only takes the price of a tin of tuna fish to get the culprit .you can then relocate it wherever you want to, no crime commited yes but they would know its me and then go out and get another one
Guest Owen Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 Do not wast time and money messing about with mesh, electronic sound things or anything like it. The only sure way to keep the cats away is to use an electric fence. It also works for dogs and foxes. The main benefit is that you will not end up rowing with the neighbours. The cats will carry on being cats their side of the fence, the neighbours will be unaware of what you have done and your pigeons will be safe. As a foot note, you will never successfully race pigeons if they know that there are cats ready and waiting to eat them.
lawrie Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 get the cat and kick its a@@e! the old baseball bat works a treat...apparently

yorkie Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 don't underestimate a cat if you leave the trap open and it gets in it will bite the head off every bird in the loft, they kill for fun
lawrie Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 i have a cat, i think hes the detterent, no cats come near and he doesnt bother them
soapy Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 that aint a cat thats doing that yorkie a cat will only kill one bird and eat it , stoats, mink, rats. foxes bite the head of and kill indiscriminately,
Wiley Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 only one way to deal with cats is with a good dog
Red cooky Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 that aint a cat thats doing that yorkie a cat will only kill one bird and eat it , stoats, mink, rats. foxes bite the head of and kill indiscriminately, na thats not right. If a cat gets in yer loft it will kill the lot unless it thinks it cant get out , then quite often it leaves them all alone (not always) Had em in a few times over years when I was younger. Even if they are hanging around the loft , it will spoil your racing at the very least.
marmite Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 electric fence m8 only way as to not give u probs l8r with neighbours
