pigeonscout Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 I wood eat one of your pigeons but eating one of my own pigeons would be like eating my dog.
Guest Owen Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 the way things are going with this credit crunch, we may be glad to eat a few. Mind you, I have been wondering why I never get lost birds reported. Could it be that someone is eating the poor little sods???
THE FIFER Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 lots of farms had pigeon towers , full of pigeons used the manure for the fields but it was the squabs they used for eating.
frank-123 Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 heard rabbits blood makes a nice soup i would not eat pigeon
Guest spin cycle Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 most of what we eat today is pumped up with steroids and anti biotics so i would not worry about it :) thats a good point....but i think anyone eating their birds should check labels of medicines they've used. the 'coxy' medicine i use states that the droppings from the birds should not even be used on ground that grows crops.
kirky Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 no vaccinated bird should be eaten, if you value your health.
THE FIFER Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 no vaccinated bird should be eaten, if you value your health. is'nt all chickens vaccinated, ???

peterpau Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 At Southam club one of the flyers used to put a sign on the black board at the end of the young bird season freezer pigeons wanted.
Roland Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 Yep love wood pigeon pie. Many do, will therefore take the birds of you to eat them. Just after, and obviously before and during, the war years, the ferals helped fill many a plate. A lot smaler and less meat of course than a woody. But then 4 and 20 blackbirds to a pie. (Rooks acyually) was / is a great delicacy. and Very well had often even now. Like wise the common blackbirds etc. Was a time when 'Netting' the ivy was popular for the smaller birds like finches sparrows etc. And the French will - like the Italions I believe - will eat any bird they can catch.
Roland Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 Wood pigeons breast today are just mixed with sausage meat and eaten. Me, well I perfer two to a pie WHOLE. No pne has ever been able to eat a wood pigeon a day for 7 days, too rich for the system.
