Sexing Youngsters in The Nest

HAPPY IS THE PERSON WHO CAN PREDICT THE SEX OF HIS YOUNG BIRDS IN ADVANCE.!!!!!

THIS CAN BE DONE VERY EASILY WHEN THE YOUNG BIRDS ARE IN YELLOW FUZZ STAGE DURING THE FIRST FEW DAYS OF LIFE.

1. FACE THE YOUNG BIRD AWAY FROM YOU AT EYE LEVEL BEING VERY CAREFUL FOR PROPELLANT MATTER.

2. CHECK TO SEE IF THE POOP CHUTE ::::: IS SMILING OR FROWNING.

3. THE BOYS SMILE

4. THE GIRLS FROWN

5. VERY SIMPLE WITH PRACTICE & KEEP A RECORD OF YOUR PICKS.

6. EXTREME PROFICIENCY ::::::: WHEN YOU GET TWO SAME SEX IN NEST.

7. AND YOU'RE RIGHT.!!!!!!!

8. TAKE THIS TO THE BANK, BECAUSE IT REALLY WORKS.

have a look at this and see if you can figure it out

Sammy your right on with the above statement.  This is the way the chicken raisers sex their young birds with I believe over a 98% accuracy rate.   Cock birds are always smilin and after the ybs are 2 weeks old you can't rely on this way.  Ed

could be right,i dont think there is a 100% way to tell, but i find the youngsters which stand up and puff their necks at u look like cocks. u will get some which sit and peck at u, but its the agresive ones standing up and puffing.looks like cocks.

If I were to guess from this type of behavior,I would guess the hens would be more protective of the nest than a cock bird. My old hens are mean as can be when they are on the nest. Most of the cock birds are not too excitable as long as I don`t take them off the nest.

Miss Red Cheque.  If they are smilin they will be cocks, that is of course unless they are over 5 days old and then all bets are off.  LOL.  Ed

dont know about sexing yb but if you are floating eggs then remove the first egg as soon as she lays it and replace it with a pot egg putting the first egg under a foster pair

when she lays the second egg remove this one and put it under a different foster pair

you will find that 99.9 times out of 100 the first egg will be the cock

I have just put my ybs on the floor,  and whilst doing so, gave each one a CLO capsule.  When giving them a capsule, I also determine their sex. 95% right always. A ybs beak at this age will determine its sex. A young cocks beak (wattle end) will always be that much wider than a hens, in other words, you can see the wattles at this stage before development. Try it yourselves.  ;) Vic.

Why does this system only work when in nest?  Surely it doesn't change shape at later stage....you can still see the smile and frown when birds are older even though feathers have grown?

Cheers

What if its not a curve up(smile) or a curve down(frown) but just a straight line?

have a look at this and see if you can figure it out
