Guest Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 Funny Story here, A few years ago I entered birds in the Washington State show, won Best young cock with a huge red Bekaert, couple of months after he layed eggs, shows how much those approved judges know lol
Guest Paulo Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 I've found normally if slightly bigger and has a bigger head its a cock. Also look at its behaviour is it chasing other pigeons and sweeping its tail and inflating its airsacs if so its a cock. And like everybody says if it lays an egg its a hen lol Can be hard to tell with some pigeons but I bet even experienced fanciers make mistakes some times with this one.
peterpau Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 Hey shadow I think you've cracked it. The female of the species do seem to rattle more.
RoosterBoy Posted July 17, 2006 Report Posted July 17, 2006 If it ask you to hand over your pay check ,you'll know

Guest beautyhomer Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 colour sex linkage red hens paired to blue cocks will give red cocks and blue hens 100% effective
Ronnie Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 i was thinking along these lines beuty after reading a post where you said the cock defines the hen youngsters colour and the hen the cocks. That mealy cock and check hen i paired have produced one youngster which is a dark mealy so am i right in assuming it will be a hen?.
Guest Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 Sexing Youngsters in The Nest HAPPY IS THE PERSON WHO CAN PREDICT THE SEX OF HIS YOUNG BIRDS IN ADVANCE.!!!!! THIS CAN BE DONE VERY EASILY WHEN THE YOUNG BIRDS ARE IN YELLOW FUZZ STAGE DURING THE FIRST FEW DAYS OF LIFE. 1. FACE THE YOUNG BIRD AWAY FROM YOU AT EYE LEVEL BEING VERY CAREFUL FOR PROPELLANT MATTER. 2. CHECK TO SEE IF THE POOP CHUTE ::::: IS SMILING OR FROWNING. 3. THE BOYS SMILE 4. THE GIRLS FROWN 5. VERY SIMPLE WITH PRACTICE & KEEP A RECORD OF YOUR PICKS. 6. EXTREME PROFICIENCY ::::::: WHEN YOU GET TWO SAME SEX IN NEST. 7. AND YOU'RE RIGHT.!!!!!!! 8. TAKE THIS TO THE BANK, BECAUSE IT REALLY WORKS. have a look at this and see if you can figure it out
Guest beautyhomer Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 Sorry,it might be a cock. The theory only works for red hens and blue cocks not the other way round. A cock has two colour genes so he could pass a red gene to a son or a daughter. A hen has only one so she passes her colour gene on to her sons only. The youngster could have a red and a blue gene, making it a cock or just a red gene making it a hen.
Ronnie Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 Lol thanks Beauty allways a spanner in me plans Have tried the smiling rear method and ive taken notes so i will compare it when they pair up and see if they are right
REDCHEQHEN Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 Quote 8. TAKE THIS TO THE BANK, BECAUSE IT REALLY WORKS. It doesn't :-/ :-/ :-/
Chatrace Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 The Smile frowing is most likely 98% correct as it is how they sex chickens also which is and has been doing it for years,Roosters don't lay eggs when sold as hens :-)
jupiter_19630 Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 You can sex them when you ring them. Looking at the underside of the foot lay the front toes straight in line. If the outside toes are the same length it is a hen. If the outside toe is longer than the inside toe it is a cock. The difference in length is about a sixteenth of an inch. This method is ok while youngsters are in the nest, but can not be relied upon once the bird starts walking as the feet alter in shape.
