newbold Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 in my club there is a member his cocks are like pittbulls as soon as they go in the basket wether first or last the start attaking the other birds some times its that bad we have to take injerd birds out is this natural with widowhood cocks as iv never seen this ,apart from his birds
wilkins Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 i told told and shown the birds of a combine winning loft when basketed for a race were all very calm in the the basket many laying down, the guy won a car that race when louella putting cars up as prizes ,might not be right with all cocks but it sticks in my memory
Guest Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 in my club there is a member his cocks are like pittbulls as soon as they go in the basket wether first or last the start attaking the other birds some times its that bad we have to take injerd birds out is this natural with widowhood cocks as iv never seen this ,apart from his birds Are this particular members aggresive cock consistantly winning? If not I suggest you ask your clubs marking committee to have his cocks put into one crate on their own so they can knock seven bells out of each other, he may not be so keen to wind his birds in such a manner, if they are coming home injured.
b.massey Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 They probarly are winning due to the fact the other cocks are taking a beating from this mans and lost condition for top race
Merlin Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 Wouldn't like it if when I basketed Widowers to see too much aggression from them, aggression in loft/re nest box/o k,but when in race basket, inclined to burn off too much energy, rather the silent type, think they tend to be too aggressive if confined to widower boxes too much.
OLDYELLOW Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 birds that are locked in to there boxes become very aggresive as they loose there social skills and dont like any other male bird as they assume they are in there terrortry , id agree if there to aggressive these birds would use most of there energy fighting and wouldnt perform very well especialy in an hold over i would also discuss putting this members birds in there own crate , he may change his methods when his own birds are getting damaged , best similar system for getting cocks like this its the coytey men in Belguim who have single cocks in boxes which are winched up with ropes they attack everything that goes near them , they even attack there owners hands
billy wilson Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 the only way to make widowhood cocks calm down is leave them in with the hens in parten for half an hour you will see the difference when they are in the panniers at the club headquarters
Roland Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 I have a cock bird that constaly shifts every other cock bird in the loft. Been in with three sections and quickly dominates. Never too worried in past over this... but will admit if I didn't have high hopes over this yearling - 2 year old next season, he'd be gone. Had son Van Eiders of a good fancier on here, and thought they were - as forewarned - could be a mite agressive... but they are nowt to this bird. If I boxed him in and allow plenty of exercise, he may well be like the ones mention on this post. Was actually going to discuss this bird with two knowledgeable fanciers over the next day or two.
Roland Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 By the way, he is, like all mine a natural cock bird. Only the few in the stock loft have been seperated of course.
blaz Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 widowhood cocks are aggresive i think all widowhood flyers in my club should put all of them in baskets for widowhood cocks when you see a widowhood pit ripping in to 1 of your good birds it makes you want to bleep bleep
Roland Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 How true Blaz... and is the number one reason why fanciers often ask 'Did you water them'! The w/h cocks have monopalised the drinkers and many don't get a drink I believe.
Michael J Burden Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 I think those birds should all go in their own basket. I would be morethan happy if all mine wnet together if they fitted within the rules etc.
newbold Posted November 17, 2008 Author Report Posted November 17, 2008 cheers for the reply,s just got back in. this person is a verry good flyer in club and fed,but as i sed never seen any other pigeons like it
blaz Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 ROLAND HAS A GOOD POINT AND MOST LIKELY RIGHT
mushroom Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 most clubs and fanciers would do well to give all of their birds a little more room in the baskets, then perhaps the birds would have more room to avoid each other. I have seen fanciers cramming birds together in the baskets while the transporter is half empty, and they could have used more baskets.
newbold Posted November 17, 2008 Author Report Posted November 17, 2008 mushroom, the birds im tolking about it wouldent mater if ther was only 8 birds in a basket they start pecking the H---- out ov every thing
