duncandoo Posted June 14, 2009 Report Posted June 14, 2009 ther does not seem to be a reason for the losses but i do know that a lot of good high scoring birds has been lost and consistant birds are we being taught a lesson for sacking a race controller??????? :'( :'( :'(
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 THe snfc could hire a marquee and put it up in the park next to the premises at uddingstone to keep the punters dry. ;D ;D ;D We could try and organise a bar if you wish with a few dancers, ;) ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D

Some weekends the weather is just inconsistent with pigeon racing but yet we send them. The heat generated in the transporter, poor access to water and feeding the wrong diet while awaiting release. Digestion of a protein rich diet generates thirst. The birds should be fed a light high energy feed. These and others are all factors.

hotrod Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 Great post, I've been saying for years the birds are fed the wrong mixture in the transporters. totally agree andy i have said it at the snrpc commitee meetings as well and more or less got laughed at but you can bet your bottom dollar these same fanciers WILL BE FEEDING THESE HIGH ENERGY MIXES IN THERE LOFTS . ive been told the dutch use cribbs maize en-route to there races .is this correct?

chrissyboy Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 Is it true the SNFC sent pigeons to Newbury in transit vans because of lack of transporter space, dont think that would have helped.
b.massey Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 5 cocks going to Eastbourne with Midlothian fed. Not joined SNFC tho

It would be progress to change. There is an excellent article on the subject in one of the Natural Winning Ways magazines. Best value for money on the market bar none. People agreeing with me---that's a first.

Guest IB Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 I think the subject of losses is much more complex than blaming the Race Controller. Digestion of a protein rich diet generates thirst. The birds should be fed a light high energy feed. These and others are all factors. While most others have picked up on the feeding aspect, the thing that creates thirst is lack of water. Access to water at all times would negate all the other 'on the transporter' factors you've mentioned. But agree that this is only one of many combining factors leading to losses.

Delboy Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 Lets hope the marking of the doos going to Eastbourne goes a bit smoother and more quickly than it did at Newbury. The SNFC got away with it that night as it was dry but if it's raining on thursday night i can see trouble ahead :-/ Alf, the marking went smoothly at Newbury. Granted, it took a while but thats because of the size of the hall.I stated to the SNFC officials 3 years ago, that the premises were too small for inland races but they overruled me and kept it. I am running the station and I am responsible for security and we all know that this has been slightly lax in the past few years. I will not have 100 men and their doos squeezed into that tiny hall, this is when the security could be breached. Another thing Alf, you must be new to this game because as for it raining and folk outside, well this has happened at every marking station we have ever had. They queued up Airdrie Main street, they queued outside Hamilton town hall. You had to wait hours to get your birds away . It was a time to get a blether with other doomen BUT NOW ALL YOU WANT IS TO GET YOUR BIRDS AWAY AND GET TO THE PUB AS QUICK AS POSSIBLE TO HAVE A MOAN AT THIS AND THAT. If you cant help us , dont hinder us. Why not get off yer *expletive removed* and get down there and give us a hand.

It doesnt mater what has happend in the past regarding waiting outside airdrie and hamilton in they days the snfc had a much larger membership and by the way i cant remember waiting HOURS to get the pigeons away. This is 2009 and the snfc has a much reduced membership so they should hire a hall suitable for its members and the pigeons .by the way idont think it would be much pleasure having a blether soaked to the skin also the doos soaking. The bottom line is uddingstone is far to small.
blaz Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 if it comes down to waiting i will go up now and camp.thats how much i am looking forward to this race.as it will be my first time competing at national level
