you race your hens on roundabout you dont on widowhood

I know that mate but is 1 proven better than the other I seem to do better with my hens than cocks was thinking either widowhood and race the hens instead of cocks or roundabout next year.

somethink im looking into roundabout system basically two sections cocks in one hens other nestboxs in one perch's other let one section out move other across so your cocks and hens never exercise together but get let out of one section and trap back into other section only time your cocks will see your hens are day of basketing and coming back from race.

well if you do better with hens go with roundabout or widowhood hens,   Roundabout is just a little bit more work in some ways than widowhood.

whatever you do stick to it and dont mess about and give it a good try.

allthe best

keep them in their own sections all week, so only time hens trap to cocks section is race day, they soon get to know  ;)

I use to fly roundabout, but this year choose to fly only the cocks on widowhood, the reason was that when on roundabout, if you drop a hen or cock, then there is no incentive for the mate to race home, also found roundabout to be a lot more time consuming. Saying all that, I did have success flying my hens on roundabout, but I am happy with the way my cocks have been flying on widowhood this year, and always guaranteed their mate would be there waiting for them. JMO ;) Good luck with whatever you choose to do ;)

This was our 2nd season on roundabout

You seem to get the best out of the hens - but the cocks under perform - to the point you wonder why you race them LOL !!!

This year we also had a small team of widowhood cocks - but the roundabout hens still out performed them

Our results have certainly inproved these last two seasons since we started racing the hens

as im new to racing, it would be nice if someone started a new thread pointing out the pros and cons of each system for

newbies such as me....just a thought.

flew roundabout for the last 5 years and in all that time i can count on 1 hand the number of times that the cocks have beat the hens, gonna only fly hens next year and have cocks waiting in boxes, also when flying both sexes on roundabout you could have a few hens here before any cocks so there would be nothing in boxes for them so they soon pair up with one n other creating problems, ie not as interested in cocks on basketing and also laying eggs, have tryed boxing them up but when let out for exercise they just start pairing up amongst themselfs.

I fly pure widowhood. And I have no problem about not racing hens. My hens fly all the way as youngsters and get judged on what they do. And because I don't loose any after that, I always have plenty to choose from. To me, it means that I have strength in depth as far as breeding hens are concerned. They are all out of cocks that have won races and are very good performers themselves.

The cocks are fantastic, for me. They take very little work and are always on the button. And it suites my lifestyle because I would not be prepared to spend 6 hours a day with the pigeons.

I know a lot of local flyers like to fly roundabout, partly because they can send good numbers to the races, but I see no point in that.

I will always want to send small numbers, such as 6 or 8 to a race because it gives me quite a buzz when I beat the big number men with just a few quality cocks that are trying.

Is there a book on flying roundabout or is it more or less straight forward and not worth writing a book about, would love to give it a try next season, always flew natural.

Lindsay

i would like a book also but i don't think there is one available....there are dvds...but the beauty of a book is you can pick it up and read the bit you want to. i struggled this year on natural with excersize and race motivation ...which was a shock because it went so well in 2008...so i'm going to give roundabout a try if only for an experiment :)

i am going to fly double widowhood next season its easy to do and you get to race both cocks and hens

I've never understood the difference between double widowhood and roundabout!

depends on what suits you and your set up,

i repair my stock hens to racing cocks and stock cocks to racing hens,

race them all on widowhood but in different feds, then partners always at home.

helps if you have identical nest boxes and sections so stock go to same box in race section

Go to Schaerlaekens.com, he has a great series of articles that outline double widowhood. The main advantage I garnered from the article was your worst cocks on widowhood cannot be better then your best hens. Racing double widowhood will give you a stronger overall team and you will learn more about the quality of your hens.
