sapper756 Posted March 1, 2010 Author Report Posted March 1, 2010 sapper allways thought that l/breds should be trained in the year of their birth ? yes you are correct m8, but sometimes things don,t always work out :-/
cowman Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 i`m starting this weekend weather looks good for a week at least.
Guest strapper Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 i will start training next week depending on weather. old birds have been out a dozen or so times and flying well. ive left them on open hole on warmer days when im out about the garden.
Guest devonred Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Way too cold a the moment, not starting training my yearlings til may always get hammered in the 1st 3 races
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Ive not even thought about pairing up never mind training.. And Sapper.. not a bit early for lbs..?? Cold day and they'll go down like flies..
Guest youngboy Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 well our racing dont start till late april so ill hope to start about late this month!! old birds out everyday ( weather permitting) since 30th janurary and now flying really well!! will start with a nice few 12 mile tosses!
blackdog Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 2 weeks before 1st race is soon enough for me as all birds have raced last year so will only need reminding what its about, cocks and hens will get about 4 training chucks each then thats it, no more when racing
Guest pigeonguy147 Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 have to agree with jonesy on this trid it myself a few years back after buying in l/breds went down like snaw aff a dyke
Wiley Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 when the winds in the west is when ill train my birds, pick and choose my days, no need to rush them in these early east winds
marmite Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 the 1st race will do for training toss yearlings stay at home till may when a bit warmer so training starts april 10th
Guest southern and mason Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 sapper allways thought that l/breds should be trained in the year of their birth ? a think its the worst thing u can do a traind me l/breds wit me old birds the followin year and they went 2 every race in the program apart from a couple a lost a even timed 4 ov them in
Tony C Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 A week or two before the first race if the weathers set fair. Would rather miss a race or two than rush them along.
pigeonpete Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 When do members plan to start training their old bird teams? I am hoping to give last years latebreds a toss asap My sons team have had 2/3 chucks this year :-)
Guest IB Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 My yearlings are mainly untrained late breds. Wouldn't dream of training just now, anything but warm, and they'd become hawk fodder, aren't we in the main sparrowhawk / peregrine breeding seasons during the first 4 months of year?

Mine are safer training than loft flying. like a dawn chorus of sparrowhawks round my loft just now. :-/
Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 sapper allways thought that l/breds should be trained in the year of their birth ? I bread latebreds in 2008 and they never had a training toss till start of 2009 season and sent 1 over the water and she was there on the 3rd morning might well have been the 2nd night so that theory is not true mate an old saying jmo
Guest stb- Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 if its warm again tomorrow 17cocks will go 5miles,but the weather is going to go back to cold again im told for the end of the week. -7 this morning and still - 2 just now :'( :'( :'(
Wizzer Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 WHY!!!!! Abit of Sun and now into March, why do you want to train. You have cared for the birds all over the winter and will drop birds left right and centre if you train now. Far to cold, If they are experienced birds they don`t need training untill a week before. July is when all the good races are so why start them this early.
