van Roberts Posted October 3, 2008 Author Report Posted October 3, 2008 surprised me what about champion super lou they soon found his pedigree. thats what i was told he was the free one buy 5 get 1 free but they may have keep records back then?
Guest karl adams Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 the pair witch i have were given to me last year 07 and they are only 06 birds they have never been out of a loft i have not had any young out of them as they may be nest mates
OLDYELLOW Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 just try them and if ybs no good split them
Roland Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Distance Birds eh! Kipps obviously take all the beating. Beautiful coloured and looking birds. Bacelona Master, Bacelona King, etc. etc. 17 timed in within a couple of minutes (Or was that all 17 within 20 minutes and so many inside 2 minutes!).
van Roberts Posted October 3, 2008 Author Report Posted October 3, 2008 dont think it makes alot of difference nest pair just do what old yellow said
van Roberts Posted October 3, 2008 Author Report Posted October 3, 2008 yes i have read alot about the kipps birds any body got them
peterpau Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 I know a very good distance flier from York who buys from louella. He buys youngsters and races them before thinking bon breeding from them. He feels that if he buys youngsters and tries them then he will be left with those which suit the type of racing he does and also his management. Sounds like the best way to start for me rather than buy stock birds that produce enless duffers. I would recomend Richard Howey from Northampton. I have 2 from 3 youngsters that I bought from him, and I cant ever remember keeping that many from anywhere.
Guest slugmonkey Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 There are pros and cons to both ways if you buy young and fly them at least you will know if they perform my motto about stock birds is if they are GOOD stock why are they being sold ??? try buying some auction birds from a good one loft race most breeders that enter these will not send junk you can see the birds results and as most breeders recive some of the proceeds most will give you information about bloodlines and some will even give pedigrees ( I do ) even though the bird may not have won the race most are bred very well
Guest Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 I would recommend Richard Howey my Barcelona bird was bred from a hen from him and i also took 3rd club with one i bought from him in 06 and i believe he has introduced the jan theelans i bought 12 in 06 and i think i had 16 sent very genuine guy
Roland Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 A first class gent, a wealth of free knowledge, always willing to listen and advice, and argueably the best birds in Europe, with the likes of Ron Williamson. Take a peekers, and then remember and take into account his loft position. That says it all. Some write ups of him..... http://www.nrcc.co.uk/Racing/RaceReports/Lerwick/tabid/73/language/en-GB/Default.aspx http://www.nrcc.co.uk/Racing/RaceReports/Thurso/tabid/72/language/en-GB/Default.aspx http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=frankbristow+pigeon&meta=
harky Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 at the price louella sells them at your onto a winner if you take into account how much it would cost to rare a dozen young birds i.e rings ,jagging and then the feeding of them .if you buy else where i think you will pay a bit more for them only to lose them ,louella would be my choice and obviuosly im thinking of my pocket and yours its worth a gamble.I have won in the past with loella youngins every year i baught them. :)
allenyeates Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Have bought louella Busshearts(Eagleson) a few times(01 02 and 03) all were £99 for 6 and were raced.Still have quite a few of the originals left and have bred some good honest birds out of them.
Guest pigeon82 Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 my dad bought a dozen this year late bred youngsters but he is keeping them as stock if i were you i would do the same buy and use them as stock and breed them for next years racing
van Roberts Posted October 3, 2008 Author Report Posted October 3, 2008 good idea i think if i decide to buy from louella i want to race then breed from them get the weaklings out first
Guest pigeon82 Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 yeah but if you lost all of them then you have nothing to breed off waist of money in my eyes at least you got them there to keep breeding for you you aint lost no money then
Diydave Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 I wanna tell you a story !!! i once bought 6 motta van hee's ,yb's from louella just after they introduced the £99 for 6 to race. the pigeons arrived, and my heart sank !! . all six were full of lice. as you can imagine i was put off straight away, at the end of that young bird season. treated and raced alongside my own , none were left, from that day i have been very wary buying pigeons from unflown stock, generation after generation , i am not knocking louella as i think they do a great job in making champion bloodlines available to the working man , but , my thoughts are after a few years of inbreeding to the champions, it takes a few generations to get the "winning ability " back into the strain . the amount sold has to throw up a certain amount of winners ? , but it would be a low percentage i think ? dave
gangster Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 if i was going for some good distace birds id look no futher than cloudview and peterpau having visited both id have no doubts about buying some youngsters from 2 honest distance guys ....
Guest pigeon82 Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 i still think if i got youyngsters of neone to race i would rather breed them them b4 i race them you know then you got something to carry on the family not saying if you lose them tho but its always good to have ones for stok
