Ronnie Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 birds have been paired for 2 weeks now and still no egg's. Is it the weather or another underlying fact. Most pairs went together well but not seen no treading as of yet and cocks are not chasing hen's. Any idea's? and would it be best to split them again for a week and repair?

shotgun tim Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 might be too fat split put hens on 100% barley for a week then repair
Guest asha Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 Hi Ronnie, does`nt matter about the cold, but why did`nt you put your lights on a couple of weeks before to let their bodies think it`s pairing time, would have been easier for you ,now your off to a bad start, jesus you keep making silly basic mistakes and you`ll not give your racers a chance,so if you do poor in the oldbird season look in the mirror before you blame the birds.
Guest IB Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 Just check the hens vents before you do anything. If they are open(ing) best leave well alone. Nature sometimes takes it time. Think it'll work out better too, hardly the weather for sitting eggs or youngsters. Good luck.
OLDYELLOW Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 biggest mistake when pairing early is hens are too fat and if your feeding a mix heavy in maize they can take along time to lay , put them on barley and wheat till they have laid , give a calcium supliment and mix a bit of grit in with there feed , or some soluble calcium in the water to ensure good egg formation and suply vitamins , all will help with geting hens to lay good eggs i even put live natural yoghurt in the water at this time right until youngsters weaned
greenlands Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 might be too fat split put hens on 100% barley for a week then repair same here mate barley won't hurt cocks either, all mine are on it stock etc.

Roland Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 That's why I like mine flying out well, 10 day to 2 weeks before, clears any INNER fat. That is most important. Mell well leave them split why they do the first part, and then mix them 10 days after they have been flying out. Never use to split the sexes, and they flew out everyday, and mated up naturally end of March / April. Two rounds were ample. First year restricted their flying out. have to see what is what like, and still haven't planned when I'll mate them up! Will mate the stockbirds up after Blackpool week I think.
Peckedhen Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 Just wanted to ask some of my stock birds laid they first eggs it was very cold last nite will i be ok this is my 2nd year racing hopefully this is not a bad thing Yeah, I was wondering the same thing - if the hen didn't stand over the egg, wouldn't it freeze and be no good? I brought one in this morning that was abandoned and freezing cold, thought I'd replace it when the second egg is laid! :-/
peterpau Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 Ronnie you are clearly getting it all wrong I offerd to take that Massarella pigeon off your hands before I am still waiting Eggs will be ok in the nest they don't need to warm up till second egg is laid
