Wiley Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 Now the racing season has basically come to an end those on darkness need to get there birds in a moult?to help those on the darkness post up your tips and fads. Once racing is finished we give the birds a final bath, all birds are seperated from sexs. In The drinker they get a teaspoon of cayne pepper to a pint of hot water, when this cools gets put into the shed,They get this most days in the drinker when this aint in the drinker nettle tea and garlic is in there. They are fed on a moulting mix, with garlic juice mixed in,To this is added red band and lineseed.
PIGEON_MAN Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 WILEY,YOU SAY THAT YOU GIVE THE BIRDS A FINAL BATH,SURELY A BATH AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK WHEN THE BIRDS ARE IN THE MOULT IS MORE BENIFICAL.
Wiley Posted September 19, 2006 Author Report Posted September 19, 2006 i mean a bath before they get locked up for a month pigeon man, thats what i meant to say, then a bath every other day after the month of lock up!Sorry fo the confusion i didnt proth read before posting
ACE LOFTS Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 all i do is lockem up and feed them as much as they like with reguler baths, and dont put nothing in the water just good food and fresh grit daily
NANCYVIEWLOFTS Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 same here ace lofts seperate cocks and hens keep them in give them a bath once a week nothing in the water no lights on always got through the moult perfectly ok i think its how far and for how long into the season you race your youngsters if you race them well into september especially when paired up then you may have a job getting them through on the above method
Guest shadow Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 clean water garlic once a week baths as often as you feel like and linseed added to the feed
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER HEARD OF ANYBODY GIVING THEIR BIRDS PEPPER WHAT DOES THIS DO FOR THEM EXCEPT CLEAR THEIR NOSTRILS WHEN THEY SNEEZE
Wiley Posted September 28, 2006 Author Report Posted September 28, 2006 lol its not the same as normal pepper mate its a spice, and heats up the body temp,so therefor they begin to moult
jimmy white Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 i use peppers as well ,, the sunday peppers the daily peppers , but put them on the floors of nest boxes ;D ;D ;D ;D just joking wiley, but see your point i prefer if poss to get them out every day , enough time to clean the loft [not on horrible damp days]as many baths as poss , as this induces the moult in itself, a higher protein diet, with a handfull of red band

sapper756 Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 Same as Ace. I put garlic in the water, and at least one bath a week. I have never had problems getting my darkness birds through the moult.

roadhog42 Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 what if you keep the birds on the darkness way to long into season and they when the racing is over have maybe only moulted one flight how can i by december get them all the way thouigh there wiing
Mike Lycett Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 2 soupspoons per litre for 7 days Not by the milk - with the whipped cream / yoghurt. Costs 50p a carton

Mike Lycett Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Roadhog The birds will need a bit of help but they'll do it. On 9th September virtually all our YBs had not cast a flight - they're on their 6th now
rockinrick Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 i use peppers as well ,, the sunday peppers the daily peppers , but put them on the floors of nest boxes ;D ;D ;D ;D just joking wiley, but see your point i prefer if poss to get them out every day , enough time to clean the loft [not on horrible damp days]as many baths as poss , as this induces the moult in itself, a higher protein diet, with a handfull of red band lmao , jimmy m8 u are a star :D, and wiley m8 when i tried darkness a few years ago all i gave birds in way of feed was barley and plenty of fresh clean water also the odd bath in warm water , no need for all the things u give ,jus my thoughts ;D ;D
ACE LOFTS Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 well i had some youngens on the widowhood so u can imagine they only droped 1-2 flights in september after last race i think it was 9th, well now u look at them they have 3-4 to go, they were throwing 2-3 flights out at a time. just good food and fresh grit + plenty of hot baths.
Wiley Posted October 17, 2006 Author Report Posted October 17, 2006 well every one has there own opinion lads,at the moment most of my youn birds have 2-3 to go,so i must be doing something right,
