What are your feelings about PM bids when birds are being auctioned on this site. I ask because a bit of confusion as taken place today with a bird being auctioned.

The auction was due to end at 4.00pm and I put a bid in at 3.56pm the next thread was at 4.01pm. In between these times a member of the site sent a PM to the guy selling the bird which obviously was higher than my bid, however I did not have a chance to increase my bid due to me not knowing about the PM.

I have no axe to grind with anyone but feel that that unless we all know were we stand then problems will obviously arise.

Good luck to the fancier who made the bid by PM I hope you get what should rightfully be yours if PM bid are to be allowed. ;) ;)

all bids should be on the auction, what if i was selling a pigeon and wanted £200 and only getting bids for £100 i could say ive had a bid of £110 by pm hoping bidders on the forum would bid and so on untill i got what i wanted..

i agree pm bids should not count as it could be something dodgy on the sellers behalf i also disagree with bids after the deadline time !!!

I remember a lot of confusion about another auction by Mr Swilcox on the site, he said it was hard to run auctions on a  site was not equipped to run them :-/

I do not think PM's should count

i think unless the seller states NO pm bids its right to do it,although its a bit harsh when you are outbid by a pm bidder and you have no chance to up your bid.if the seller states the auction ends at 4 oclock then it should end at 4 on the dot.ive seen auctions where the seller states if there is close bidding near the end it will run an extra 10 mins or so...

my two pennys worth is that the auction should be either by pm OR public not a mixture of both and it should be stated right from the get go which way the auction will be run

i agree with the 10 min, as an auction is to the highest bidder, if bidding is still taking place at closing surely all bidders should get the chance to come in, pm bids i dont agree with as you dont really know how the bidding is standing, but ita up to the person doing the auction to make what is what clear before the start, or maybe p/basics should put down the rules, this would save a lot of disagreements,

yep i agree with the [i assume] the ex bootie p/basics should set a set of rules ref auctions on this site then no confusion

my thoughts entirely on this subject where i was involved in the last auction that took place on here when i was bidding never ever will i be caught out like that again where the p.m. comes in plus i was bidding for one at the time not two as it turned out in the end i made my bid then the rules changed i have since spoken to the seller and an arrangement was made

The best thing to do is keep your penny's in your pocket, unless your buying birds you have handled.

I've got to say i've read a couple of blinders on this site as to why they are for sale, since Blackpool  ;) ;) ;)

I think auctions on the site are good, and if you know who is selling them all the better, as the one which started off this thread, by Swilcox, well known and a genuine fancier, i have delt with him and his belgium partner in person at Blackpool and have always been pleased with what i have got, i have purchased birds from them at Blackpool and on site, and can say in my view they will always give you a good deal.

it could be that the pm bidder wants to keep his bid private between him and the seller and not let every one know how much he/she has paid for the bird ??? just a thought...

Then do what you do at normal auctions, get someone else to bid for you, although that may be hard due to this being a membership based auction and done via cyber space  :-/

a case in point

the auction should be called pm only, that way all bids are "sealed" by way of pm until end of play

i think there is always going to be some controversy over any auction unless rules are stated at the very begining...otherwise people will just assume auction is open to all bids,pm or other...

Please stick to the general case. PMs being accepted in an auction as they are presently run, or not.

Specifics in the recent stem of this topic will be dealt in that topic and not here.

Ok, I think auctions should be run by rules set by yourself and PM bids are unfair and like all parts of pigeon life, safeguards are implemented to stop any cheating as this makes it a fair playing feild for everyone, auctions no matter who runs them should be seen to be fair for everyone concerned.

Its simple i will not run an auction on PB again!!! By questioning the use of a PM bid your questioning my honesty and i have had enough of it.

Stuart

Not questioning your honesty, but it would not be fair for you to have rules different from any other member, which protects both parties.

for what its worth i personally dont think swilcox has done anything wrong, hes just a man auctioning a bird, its not hes fault some bid by pm and others bid by thread reply...he cant please every one.if you have any more birds to sell you sell them,as long as webmaster is happy with it you do it...

nobody doubts your honesty. if you stick to bids on thread they are there  for all to see. they still got a quality bird.

Sorry to hear you have decided to stop auctioning birds on this site, because of negative comments from the "minority". However in future Stuart, if you find you have a bird you want to auction, why don,t you PM members that you know, and have been happy to deal with in the past, and let them know. Just a suggestion m8 :-/ That way those that constantly throw negative comments at you, will not be involved. What do others think? This is only a suggestion by myself, and in no way wish to upset anyone ;)

Again, as I said nobody is saying he done anything wrong, PM bids or no PM bids, if everyone knows the ruling at the start of any auction, then they bid on the rules set by the seller. This stops any confusion at the end.

Maybe auctions should be posted as; either the seller makes up any ruling he wants and posts it at the start, or the site rules on auctioning birds are implimented. That way there is no argument or confusion at the end of any auction.
