Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 Late 90's 1st Club 1st Fed 9th open with Scottish Central Combine Sartilly. Birds in the basket almost a week my two year old hen was liberated at 06-30 and was timed in at 21-51 that night. She was sent just as her eggs which were about to hatch, indeed my mate John Gilmour, still says to this day the energy from the milk she had produced played a part in this great feat. This beats any other memory, other than remembering i always worked for the good of the sport.
heather down Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 Mine is when my husband and I won Bergerac 603 mls in 2003 with M N F C after only starting back in pigeons a couple of years before. Sadly he passed away Feb 2006 but at least he achieved his ambition in pigeon racing. I shall be racing myself this young bird season with a friend of ours, hopefully we will win something. Also it was an honour to assist my friends Pat and Graham in their fund raising evening for Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield at an Eye Sign Show they held.
rembrant2coo Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 i,m very pleased for you heather , and it was good of you to come on and tell us about it well done

Guest IB Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 Well done to all on their very different personal achievements and excellent reasons for each of them being memorable to the individuals involved. Its a long time ago and I hope my memory is correct on the date - some of the old timers might help me out here - the year Lanarkshire Fed first flew the channel, Avranche (spelling), sponsor Usher/Vaux - maybe 1967 ? I was in Bellshill club, probably youngest member, and had won Whitchurch, Worcester and Cheltenham, 200 - 230 miles. No Fed tickets, basically just a club flier. But I wanted to go to Avranche, think it was not much over 500 miles. Hadn't prepared anything - just picked the bird I thought had best chance, the bird that had won Whitchurch, a 2 yo Blue Grizzle Cock that was a Dark Grizzle to me because I always had bother with colours - and put him away. Darkness on day 1 of the race and no grizzle cock, knew my mate had timed around 8pm, controlled my clock and was up 4.30am next morning, waited and waited and just as I thought I'd never see him again, saw him coming in over the neighbours' gardens, timed 8.45am second day, 4th club. Nowhere in Open, but still absolutely over the moon with timing from the channel and a minor club prize. That was to be my last year in pigeons because I moved away from home with the railway, was in digs for years after that.

Been there done that, many a time !!!!!, since I was a boy. "But to me" that is what pigeon racing really is all about ????? the enjoyment of waiting ;D ;D ;D & dreaming as the day drags on & on & on : : : & at times into the next day :D it's really a fun sport then. But the men then come to the front of the pack !!!!! on most occassions when it's a bit tough, for what I have found. So it really doesn't matter whether, one is 1st or last etc, we are all winners in the end. At least in my view. Enjoy.
Tony C Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 Guess one of them is was when people stopped asking Tony who? when I won ;D ;D ;D
