Hi all, when I was last in the pigeons I was in the SNFC for a few years, but found it very hard to compete, even at the yb national when my young birds at club level were doing great & also getting in the fed.

Do the PB members think that the SNFC is suited to fanciers flying into the real west of scotland.

And does any think the sections could do with looking at as some of the towns I see on the west section result are more central than west ....my opinion is that if I want to do anything in the National I need a strong east wind Galeforce probably or to move it's got nowt do do with the birds not being good enough  it's all about loft position thats where the real advantage lies.

I think this is one of the many hazzards in pigeon racing 2 day along with winds etc, and we just have to take it as part of the game, but if anyone thinks there is a way to change then put to the agm, and see if anything can be done, the only thing in the pigeon game is trying to please everyone which you can never do,

Hello Doo

You may not know this but in 2004 the SNFC changed it from 4 sections to 7 sections which meant that Ayrshire Renfrew and Ballocmyle have a section all to themselves which in turn means you get the same credit for your performances as any other section and recieve the same trophies as well, in turn it is not easy flying into Ayrshire but the men from that part of the country really need to overcome the difficulty of flying into the far west and send there pigeons in hope that one day the wind will be there for them instead of the usual wind against them.

Cheers

Gareth

Hi Doo,

I have always tried to compete in the S.N.F.C even when I flew in region F, now section F. Granted, I raced into one of the better areas for this section but now I race in section E and am probably flying into the worst area of this section but still competing.Just keep trying and one day, you will find you have a family of birds to handle the disadvantages of flying into the extreme west of Scotland.

doo, racing into ayrshire with the snfc is a very hard shift one i do not envy, you mention the ybn which i think is the the hardest race of all in the snfc with all the birds running up the east side of the country hence some fanciers with all their birds home and locked up while you 4 hrs later are still waiting on your first arrival, soul destroying, these same fanciers scratch their heads and wonder why the fanciers of ayrshire do not send birds, simple answer these fanciers do not stay in ayrshire, not all doom and gloom though as their have been some great performances from the old bird nationals into ayrshire.

as mentioned by gareth the sections have been rejigged so all to play for, good and great fanciers in

all areas and if your gonna get a good doo the scottish national flying club is the place to get one.

good luck. :) :) ;) ;)

Hello Doo

Whilst i agree with both Gareth and Derek that there are now 7 sections instead 4, when you consider that what was the old West Section, is now the Western Region, and we have fanciers competing in that region from towns like Camelon for example, almost on the banks of the river Forth, then i do tend to agree with you that it can at times be a bit unfair.

Maybe your right Davie but where do you draw the line. You wont please everybody no matter what you do. I suggested a few years ago at a SNFC committee meeting that there should be 3 regions from east to west. East, Midland and West. This idea may have encouraged more people to join and compete in the National, but it still leaves the complications of who flies where. :-/ :-/

I think to win in Ayrshire in the SNFC u would need to send down the west coast, as Annan premier club does, with West Cumbria and hope ur pigeons hold that line.

i think youll allways get advantages and disadvantages in pigeon racing , but as i have said b4 ,, looking at a national result you can soon see the best bird , and really [no offence to winners] its not allways the winner , [remember kennedy winning the gold cup rennes race  with "culzean victory" in ayrshire  :)]race long enough and hard enough , youll get a day that suits you, sometime :)]  good luck anyway :)

The days of Culzean Victor are long gone im afraid, unless everyone from the west started sending their birds again. Jimmy, when Kennedy won Rennes there were 1000s of birds sent from the west, especially Ayrshire. The fanciers in the west were scoring regularly and their returns were usually very good. The last Gold Cup winner in the west section was Matt White of Paisley in 1980, almost 30 years ago.We all know that wind is a major factor in pigeon racing but in Nationals,I think, drag is an even bigger factor.
