Novice Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 I have passed Menwith hill several times. This installation is huge. It was designed by Raytheon who also design and manufacture Patriot missiles. They are experts in this field. The base is, I believe, an early warning system which can spot missiles with a view to interception. To do this the beams must span hundreds of miles and be very powerful. I would expect that pigeons which are on an established line of flight would be less likely to be affected than those which were just finding their bearings. We will never know whether or not this establishment can contribute to our losses.
Guest Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 I cant understand the birds clashing... it was a strong wind that day so the north and south roaders were at two very different heights. the theroy about bieng at different hights is one that i believe is true but that day the wind was forecast S/W but going by reports on here it was very strong west infact the trees on my street were blowing branches onto the road that confirmed to me the very strong due west wind yet the glasgow boys beat us through here by over 40/50 yds now back to the west/cross wind thats the worst wind for clashing as none of the birds are against/with the wind so all could be at the same hight but i still dont believe 5,000 birds will be turned by bop/small convoys north of L/F the birds that are bieng reported are in small no,s and most likly been picked up by passing feds after the damage had been done but we still dont know what happened and never will because the seven day wonder is now over as soon as the birds go for basketing the following week its forgotten untill the next time (execpt for those who got cleaned out) gareth a s/w wind is not a blow home by any means especialy for you boys on the west coast
Guest JPH Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 To be honest i dont think you will ever find out what happened now. we dont have anything in place to deal with and find out more about these happenings. As frankdooman says it will soon be forgoten about by most. A lot of ideas and theories but we are not going to get proof of anything now. :o :B
REDCHEQHEN Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Well - I didn't get any Scottish pigeon strays in that weekend - but I did get North Roaders in, so there was some clashing somewhere between North and South
Guest bigda Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 a mate of mine took his young birds from coatbridge to salsburgh, a distance of 6 mile from his shed, 36 of them at 6m at 9-30pm had 2 home got three in a another fanciers shed 7mile away from his loft , got four back over the week, making it nine in all, and has never seen them again after the percy chased them and that was in 07 and the same mate is a top flyer in the L/ fed :o
Mr Yorkie Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 This weekend it was a westerly so Redcheqhen I would expect the birds to clash but the previous week there was definately southerly in the wind and at Thirsk the birds going over us both north and south were at two very different heights.
