Guest Owen Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 And goodness knows what he could do if he really got down to it. How is it that in most sports there is always someone who is head and shoulders above everyone else? And it applies to absolutely everything. I remember when I kept canaries there were two men that were untouchable. They did not just win prizes, they totally dominated. Then there are people like Calzaghi, Best and the like. Then there are the All Blacks and the Australian Rugby League side. And in amateur sports like ours the gap between the best and the tryers is even bigger. I am so very gratefull for this Forum and organisations like it for helping us to discuss things that matter and allow us to expose some of the myths. We have been at the mercy of the advertisers and the propergander from some writters until recently. Do you remember the days when The Old Hand was read and followed far and wide? And yes he did tell us some useful stuff but there was also a lot of crap with it. Even the Vets have to be careful these days because a lot of us go to them with real knowledge. It then makes it difficult for them to con us as they used to do. And more important than that they often have to admit that they do not know too much about our birds. Honesty no less, at last. Perhaps the best flyers are streets ahead of most of us now, but I am sure the gap will close as time goes on and knowledge grows. Of course there is always the risk that Ronny and the other brilliant flyers will become even better than they are now and we will still be in the chasing pack.
holmsidelofts Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 Yeah ronnie is in my opinion one of the best flyers in the world. Just remember the route these birds take to, having to cross the irish sea and the english channel. Ronnies loft design is fantastic as well. Last year has really turned my thinking on to loft design, I know me and owen have talked in length about this and im convinced that a properly ventilated loft is where the advantages are made. Fantastic bird in poorly ventilated loft will win nothing, the same as poor birds in a very well ventilated loft will do nothing, you have to have both. I myself at the start of the year wasnt overly convinced that ronnies roof design would make a difference. But after extensive research into it i changed my mind. I was in the process of moving 2 lofts that had poor ventilation, both had apex roofs but i could never get the air flow right. I move the lofts to a position that now faces the sun all day, i took off the apex roofs, put back on flat roofs and adopted ronnies roof ventilation design, and what a difference it made to the air flow. You cant smell a bird in there at all. It did take a lot of work to do but it was well worth it. I have put up some photos before. If anyone wants to see them again let me know and i will put them back up. Jas.
Novice Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 you still need some good birds but the Loft design he has plays a big big part Jimmy once the loft is right you have better returns and can be more selective in what you keep at the end of the year. Once you do that properly you go from strength to strength. Many fanciers spend loads buying good birds then ruin them in an unsuitable loft. But yes good birds are important to.
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 What features does Ronnies loft have to make it so special..??
Novice Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 What features does Ronnies loft have to make it so special..?? Ulster lofts could probably tell you as I think they are friends but you would be advised to look at the DVD Secrets of Champions 4.
