Guest kevin b Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 It depends on how much time you have in the loft, as one post says if you are in work when your y/bs come home the open door is not much use to you. Stall traps were my choice but I always made sure before the babys were let out on their own to place them through the trap as many times as possible (easy with a small team and some learned quicker than others but usually 5 or 6 times each) they soon know this is the entrance to their home and they never get in any other way. I always left the trap locked untill I wanted them in, then dropped the flap and called them, again this is the only way they ever entered the loft (when I was there) they didnt get out in the first 3 weeks unless I was there. I made this video a few years ago just for myself but have a look, even just to look at the good weather. Kevin
aye ready Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 good educational video kev for any new starter that wants to learn about the stall trap, pity you didn't show the inside of the trap to show the workings of it,i stillbelieve it's the best form of timing pigeons from a race into and it should also be noted that the landing board can be made bigger if required
Guest kevin b Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Show off ;D ;D ;D ;D I fed mine that week lol. Think it proves how fast you can get them in if you train them right, the ets would be burned out in a week
gulkie Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 get a fantail train young birds to come down when u flutter it,and use stall trap, if u dont have ets .tryed them all, stall trap best, dont have to handle young from racing big benifit.
sox Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 i use the whistle cos if they are really high up they can here you and trap well always blow the whistle each feed time they soon learn!
greenlands Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Look at this for trapping .. There's either a peregrine after them or they are bl""dy hungry.
sox Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 There's either a peregrine after them or they are bl""dy hungry. thats trapping !
ALF Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Look at this for trapping .. I can get my y/b's in the loft quicker than that 1st time i used ETS they were going in that quick i had to change the trap (To slow them down a bit) as it wasnae clocking them all as they were going in on top of eachother in the trap ...46 through the trap in under 10secs easily coming home from training ;) :P 8) 8) 8) 8)
Guest mike hitchin Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 only started with young birds last year but me dad had them for years an we use stalls for old and young for a few reasons, can trap themselves after training, loose less time, dont have to handle them to much after a race, and mainly cos it'l be easier when we change to ets.
