Guest spin cycle Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 dependes what sort of yb season we have . if we have a easy one where no one in our fed really lost any birds in the young bird season but you no as well as i do another yer and every one is wiped out after the first two races . plus any one who dosent kill isnt selecting very well because we all dont breed winners we all have birds where they get to 3 and still havent taken a card they just come home so the old make way for the new i could quite easily get down to 20 pairs lol you carnt tell me you have 48 winners sittin in your loft lol you're right i don't have 48 winners but i believe you have to give them 3 seasons so i have 7 pairs of yearlings, 7 pairs now coming 2y/o which leaves just 10 boxes for the rest (which have scored). i want to cut down to 20 pairs so i'll want 6 pairs of yearlings next year...so i'll need no more than 16-18 ybs. by you're results you are a better flyer than me but i've flown with norwich nrcc since 2006 and have never known us wiped out after 2 races...its usually first time across the humber that has been tricky. the conveyors have worked on the prog. to the extent that losses were virtually non-existant this year and credit to them. i had a clubmate killing the latecomers before the end of the season....if anyone wants to win that badly...they're welcome to it. interesting post of yours about only needing fewer sprinters as most fanciers i've met have more sprinters and just a few distance pairs, so its nice to know that there are succsessful sprint guys who only feel the need to have small teams. i was also interested in you're comment on sleaford...to me why a 'north road' club wants to fly from what is almost east midlands baffles me...i'd rather boston which, while shorter, at least gives them sight of the 'wash'. in the end its up to the champ. club. so i'm not complaining. i doubt i shall fly sleaford at all with ob...my best will be in scotland. good luck for next season ps do you know our race prog. yet ?
adam owen Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 ive read thease threads and as u can see people keep less old birds than ybs is this because of losses or to see what you got???? i think personally it mite be where people go rong to many ybs in small lofts [overcrowding] could this be a reason for ill ybs and heavy losses surley if you have 100 young birds you cant give them all the attention they need where as if you had 30
REDCHEQHEN Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 I have more old birds than young birds
Guest ROCKYandRAMBO Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 being as im in the same fed as you now we will both be racing from sleaford every other week lol ive just turned north having raced south all my life so am finding it a bit different we could fly from boston or sleaford it wouldnt bother me as for loses a few years ago on the north market raisen was like a grave yard and most had been wiped out . but like this year i only lost 3 pigeons all young bird season racing . and most sprinters keep more so called sprinters because they are not really sprinting with them they send them every week up to 300 miles and you carnt sprint like that , thats why they think we are mad in belgium lol and thats why i think the late brian long had it right with his fed because we had a eastbourne or hastings every week perfect for sprinting and like our fed now a sleaford every week and unless you join the nrcc you wont go above two hundred miles .
dwh Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 just wondering how many old/young birds will most fanciers have this year the isrf plans are to bring in a 40/50 bird limit wot are your thoughts on this subject, if your a member of our fed do you think it will affect you and your performance! we'll have 16 cocks and 20 hens for the old birds and may breed 50/60 young birds best of luck to all members on here for the coming season and 2010 ob 20coks 20hens 50-60ybs

Guest ROCKYandRAMBO Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 year i know and thats where they think they need bigger teams to cope with it and they send them every single week and pigeons need rest i think its the biggest important thingin sprinting is the rest
dwh Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 year i know and thats where they think they need bigger teams to cope with it and they send them every ingle week and pigeons need rest i think its the biggest important thingin sprinting is the rest / what if you get a pigeon win1 1week 2nd the nxt would you send it 3weeks in a row?

dwh Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 true and i have lost pigeons in the past by being greedy trying to get another win lol and very gd pigeons loast one who had 12 firsts and kept saying i was going to retire him but i kept sending him try to get more wins then he didnt come back and i was gutted still am lol got our 1stwin out of channel lst yr clermont(406) was going to send her back 10 days later to bourges 556 but chickened out can be to cautious instead rested her not the same hen rest of year

Guest gladdo Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 dublinflyer this is a very interesting subject id have to admit .... there is pigeon fliers in my club cabra r.p.c (dublin, ireland ) that have ordered 150 rings and thats 5 fanciers...1 fancier 200 rings...id say 10 fanciers ordered 100 that part roughly ,,,, then there s you 75 s and 50 s minimum.... its unbelievable but however you have better chances on getting them good ones as these fanciers know and you got to respect that the percentages off getting the good birds are low . this is why they race and breed so many...if they lose 20 youngsters in a race they can easily be replaced aswell .... id say the toughest club in ireland is the sarsefields club and they can race up to 1300 youngbirds a week ... its very tough club and there is big pool money there in that club ...there is many good fanciers there aswell ... one of them i was in his loft last week and what a team off birds he has ... quality i must say and does exceptionel with the youngsters esp in a very tough club .... our club is growing to that ... however i dont think there is as many good fanciers as there is in our club ... mikey ( dublin , ireland ) ... it has its ups and downs ///i raced 9 cocks last year and they did very well ...i raced roughly 40 youngsters and they did very well ... i sent 6 youngbirds to a very tricky channel race when lots never see a feather and i got 2 ... 3rd and 4th club .... the best bird will win on the day but however the more you send the better chance you have of getting an earlier but you can manage and you can also see if a problem occurs or if a bird trying to tell you something ...he off today or he buzzing and going to be your first bird !!!! ha ha ups and downs in everything but ive never raced a big team so im only accumalting this //// mikey
BANDIT Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 ILL HAVE ARROUND 40 OLD BIRDS AND RACE 50 YOUNGBIRDS SPIT INTO 2 TEAMS BUT ALL GOING ON THE DARKNESS THIS YEAR.I THINK ITS A GOOD IDEA TO LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF BIRDS A FANCIER CAN SEND.THE TRANSPORTER ONLY HOLDS A CERTAIN AMOUNT THEN THE OTHER BIRDS HAVE TO GO ON A FLAT BACK TRUCK,WHY SHOULD SOME FANCIERS THAT SEND 100 BIRDS GET ALL THEIRS ON THE TRANSPORTER AND SOME GUYS SENDING 20 OR SO HAVE TO GO ON A FLAT TRUCK. THE SAME BIG FANCIERS WILL STILL HOLD THEIR OWN AS MOST FANCIERS STILL ONLY SEND ARROUND 20 OLDBIRDS WEEKLY AND ARROUND 30 YOUNGBIRDS WEEKLY. JMO
Guest gladdo Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 bandit a great point there ... is that 50 bird limit will show who is the best fanciers in each club .... however the only problem we will have there is these people will still breed the same amount of birds and the ones that dont do well will be desposed off.... the black bag will await in the loft by fanciers when birds come home late ... they will still breed large amounts and will be so selective on the 50 the race .... bring in the 50 bird limit .... all in favour thumbs up from me ...mikey
BANDIT Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 MIKEY THEY WILL SELL WHATS LEFT AT THE END OF THE YEAR,AND MAYBE NOW THEY WILL SEND TO THE CHANNEL,THESE BIG GUYS THAT SEND HUGH TEAMS ON THE LAND ARE ONLY SENDING A COUPLE TO THE WATER RACES,BIG CLUBS THAT SEND 500 TO 700 BIRDS WEEKLY CANT MANAGE OVER 100 BIRDS TO THE CHANNEL WHY?.AFRAID OF LOSING BIGTIME AND HAVING NO AMMO FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF LAND RACES.JMO
