pigeonpete Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I am considering having a one loft race in 2011, What would people consider would be the deciding factor if they entered or not? Will not be offering mega money, but on the other hand will be alot cheaper to enter, which i feel puts alot of people entering these races, Any thoughts or opinions please? I am not in it to rip people off. Had an initial thought of maybe attracting 400/500 pigeons first year. Do you think this is obtainable? I would run it myself, but the ultimate thing for me is what the pigeon fancier wants, after all, there your birds, and your hard earned money you will be paying. Would there be much interest or do you think the market is saturated with one loft races? There would be a charity eliment somewhere involved, :-)
Guest pigeonguy147 Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 having entered these races in the past i have found that usually they are being run by people who are out to make a quick buck and at times the organisers are tempted by the money when it starts to come in. i am not saying that all olr are like this but they have never really taken off
BLACK W F Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I WOULD BE INTERESTED BUT WHERE WOULD YOU GET THAT MANY BIRDS FROM ALL FROM DIFFERENT LOFTS CAN SEE PROBLEMS WHY NOT GO TO SAY THE NAT BREEDING STATION GET A DEAL FOR SAY 350 GAYS BUY THEM AT SAY £40-£50 EACH TAKE OFF THE PRICE OF BIRD FLY FOR WHATS LEFT AUCTION WHATS LEFT JUST AN IDEA THEN HOPEFULLY NO DESESE ALL COMING FROM ONE LOFT JMO

Guest joshdonlan Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Alan can supply you with the birds lol ;D
Guest joshdonlan Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I have no experience at all, but i think maybe 400 500 birds is too many to start off with, start small then increase if it works. 500 pigeons is going to take a hell of a lot of time. :-/
BLACK W F Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I BUT HE IS FULL TIME I AINT GOT THE BIRDS TO BREED THAT AMOUNT ;D ;D ;D ;D

But Actions speak louder im confident im not going to be tempted to flee on the sums involved, i love my pigeons, And want to make friends throughout the sport, not make enimies, But being a mod i seem to get my fair share of grief :-)
adam owen Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 acctivation fees are a put off people can afford the fee of say 200pound for three but if u still have them at final race its then a total of £6oo thats the put off :-/
Guest racer Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 its only been the entry cost that has stopped me competting in one loft races before other wise would love to of had a go

Nice and simple :-)
Tony C Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Two of the biggest things your going to have to contend with is keeping the pigeons in good health and keeping everyone happy. Think you should from the off make it known what steps your going to take to minimise the risk of infection within the flock, perhaps get the services of a vet and have a screening/testing schedule set in place. One of the best way of keeping people happy is to keep them well informed, maybe set up a blog and state you'll update it at least once a week.
adam owen Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 sounds good £50 a bird is a good fee

Cheers tony, have alread spoke to a vet regarding it, but that is a far as it has gone yet. And there would be a website, Updated frequently :-)
pigeonpete Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 Thats a great price But could you afford to run it on that cost? :-/ Its not all about running costs mate, not to me anyway, i expect to make a loss first year, but hopefully everyone will be happy , so they will join again in the second year, and spread the word :-) Obviously i wont be paying out the figures some do, But will still be a four figure some in the final race depending on entries. im confident of running it at these costs if all goes to plan, got 1 or 2 sponsors in the pipeline.
Guest joshdonlan Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 could also tap up a few couriers for the strays :-/
BLACK W F Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 serious question alan how many could you breed? was concerned abot the disease aspect :-/ THATS A TRICK QUESTION THAT I GOT 5 THAT I KNOW ABOUT BUT TRAVELLED AROUND WORKING SINCE 16 AND DID HAVE ONE EVERY WHERE SO COULD BE A FEW WHEN YOU WANT THEM FOR ASK HER ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
