Canker every 3 weeks during racing, prior to pairing and again once the birds are on eggs but not until they have laid as some treatments can affect the eggs. It's best to change/alternate products to avoid resistance.

Worming,we ivomec every 6 months on the back of the neck as we show alot too and that way we never have lice, wouldn't use it on birds under 6 weeks old or during breeding though.Again to avoid resistance we use Moxidectin which is just a 24 hour treatment in the water probably once a year but again not during breeding.

Forgot to mention we would always follow any medication by a day of clear water followed by a couple of days of multi vits and always leave 10 days between treatments, don't forget to dechlorinate the water first,if you follow a decent medication programme and keep your loft clean you should stay problem free,we are also great believers in pro biotics and such things as garlic and cider vinegar.

You should be fine combining treatment as long as the two are compatible, many do it during racing.

At this time of year you have time, so no need to combine treatment in my opinion.

hi,i'm not having a go at you, why do you need to treat so often for canker?(before pairing, whilst on eggs and every 3 weeks in season) . what would happen to your birds if you did'nt treat for canker?  and have you had any problems with sickness ?

Just my opinion,i have never treated for either of these and don't have any intentions in doing so.With 4 years relatively succesfull racing under my belt. i have to say i cant see why you would what to treat for these. No offence intended to those who chose to go down this route.

after reading this thread ive not seen or heard nothing about what to give after the treatments ?

vitamins and probiotics after any medication

with some wormers - they act like purgatives - and for want of a better phrase 'they drop their guts' (dizzy) so they need vitamins

maybee wrong but after i use any medications i always put muli vits in water and nystan on feed for a couple of days as you will find that treated birds get a yeast infection which causes the dropping to turn yellowish colour

Sound advice.

I would treat on a four weekly cycle cocci kanker and worms.

Hammer em down the road.

At the end of the season you know you have healthy well tested birds.

Only then would I try and see if I can cut the medication.

And yes I use very little now but it certainly sorted the wheat from the chaff.

Birds in pen now have flown Perth and Palamos.
