THE FIFER Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Does anyone know the best way to remove Moss from a rough cast wall? don,t want to scrape, as this may remove the rough cast :-/ BLEACH
DOVEScot Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Why does it have moss on it Brian? Older buildings can be pressure washed but most newer ones can't take it. I have an acid that you can brush or spray on that will kill it completely, you could use bleach, jeyes fluid or off the shelf moss killers but it will come back

Novice Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 There is a company near me who make a moss killer. I believe it is used in the building trade to kill moss on concrete before coating it again. The company name is T.R. Bonnyman. I spray it on the bonoblicked driveway and it kills the moss between the block.
Guest IB Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 RON A LENTH OF COPER WIRE ALONG THE TOP OF IT THE VERDIGREASE FROM THE WIRE KILL'S IT SORTED....SIMPLES.COM ;D Similar problem powerwashed rooftiles on loft a couple of years back, its back again, so been looking in last months at alternative treatments. Saw video on web on copper strips being fixed at apex both sides of roof, copper oxide is poisonous to moss, so after rain etc, this stuff runs down the roof killing / keeping it moss-free. Zinc is the same, Zinc Oxide. But reckon my double roman shaped tiles has too many nooks and crannies that this won't get into, so after a while decided on trying Di-ard off the web, expensive £35-£40 for 5 litres, but dilutes at 1 ltre : 5 litres and can be applied by hand spray, keeps clear for 6 months. Got it, but because . weather has stopped me using it so far, can't say if its effective. Intend doing slabs in garden as well as loft roof.

Just get some old electrical cable and strip the sheathing off it and run the copper wire along each side of your tiles
Delboy Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Bleach, guaranteed to work, I do my mono bloc with it, but moss does come back eventually :-/

Lindsay I am surprised it has not done the trick, does it kill the moss close to it?
Guest stevie-b Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 use a proper industrial moss cleaner as in will be into the pours of cement also u should never power wash roof tiles as they all the protection is washed out with them
Guest bigda Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 if its not to big a area, try and get a reflector on to it , like a mirror set up, as sun light kills it as long as its not affecting the traffic
Guest stb- Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 water down copper sulphate and spray or brush it on

DOVEScot Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Hi, Will try to get a photo tomorrow, weather permitting. Watch not slip on the moss ;D
Guest frank dooman Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 jayes fluid? 100% plus put a copper wire along top to stop it comming back
Guest IB Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 This is the 'bob the builder' video I was talking about in my last post. He recommends 2" copper strip which will oxidise naturally and rain washes Copper Oxide, poisonous to moss, down over the roof. It's shingles on the video, and while I think it would work with flat tiles, there's no chance with double roman, especially as highest part of tile is a joint and that's where the moss takes hold, particularly on the bottom edge of the tile.
Guest Brendan Day Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 Sulphate of iron will kill the moss sending it black, once it is dead remove it if possable with a stiff brush as it does tend to return. Moss hates iron that is why some use copper but when i used to be a grounds man we used sulphate of iron this also worked on driveways one product we used to remove moss from comertial greenhouses was armatox.
Guest bigbok Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 armilltillox is very effective at removing moss it contains cryslic acid which is a very good moss weed killer you can get it from any good garden centre but you were given the cheapest and most effective solution early on jeyes fluid %70 crysilic acid
Guest Taylors Choice Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 We sell both jeyes fluid and armillatox from our horticultural range. There is also a product called mossgard http://horticulture.taylorschoice.co.uk/products/102307_mossgard_moss_deterrent_5ltr.php which contains 30g/L Chelated Iron, 70g/L Copper and environmentally benign penetrants. But this is very expensive as it is for use on turf You can't go wrong with Jeyes fluid or Armillatox, however armillatox use to be marketed as being a moss killer, but it isn't anymore - although its the still the same product it doesn't 'technically' kill moss because it doesn't say that on the label
