I just read an interesting article on the NPO forum about ecoli and a sure cure for it.

The article states: as soon as you see some birds vomiting, you give them 7 drops of ( never heard of this product before), maybe available in drug store or health food store, over 500 grams of their feed, and that is suppose to be the cure.

It also states the many medicinal benefits of the product, maybe worth a try.

Perhaps someone can give us some more info on this product?

Don't know about this product, but can give you some info on the uses of peppermint oil as being benneficial to health..Good for, inflamation as it has anti inflamatory properties, respiratory asit has anti bacterial properties, appetite stimulant, and has been used in humans to treat irritable bowl syndrome. It may also be a useful motivational tool when used on race birds as it is a mental stimulant..encourages vigour.

if it is a mental stimulant you should try some because you are mental, you have everything on or around your birds except perfume, or do you swap the perfume on alternate days with the lavender oils, i know you like them looking good for the shows but was not aware they had to smell nice as well :D ;D

I have not used it in pigeons ,but have used it a few times on horses and it works on them, for instance in convalescence used as a compress with other oils to reduce inflamation in leg injuries. To stimulate appetite in old horses which were abit down,i mixed it with some sunflower oil and let them lick it from the hand.Have also used it in competition horses who have started to loose their edge towards the end of a season.Suppose with the birds you could sprinkle it round the loft or put 1 or2 drops in the drinker,it is a totally natural oil so better alternative to chemicals.People may mock my use of oils but what do you think people used before all the drugs came along?

Just to make things clear,a word of warning, all essential oils must be used in a diluted state as they are concentrated and very powerful, you can dilute them in water [and mix well],max 1 or 2 drops to a drinker or sprinkle round the loft to be taken in by the birds by the nasel route, again diluted either in sunflower oil or water. The only safe oil to use in an undiluted state is lavender sprinkled round the loft. Many oils available to the public are ready diluted but you must check that whatever they are diluted in is safe for the birds,if in doubt don't use.
