Guest gladdo Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 big problems with these nest felts ive heard over couple years i would only use what i know and touch wood all 100 % so far sinse ive been racing ... no sickness, no dying young , all filled eggs with none smashed ..... mikey
jimmy white Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 can i ask you ron,,, did most of your yb,s hatch?? i,e any" dead in the shell"? the reason i ask this, if it is salmonella/paratyphoid, i would assume, through past experience, that many eggs would not hatch,, then, after this, yb,s would die being just a few days old ,,,, if all yb,s hatched, i would think it less likely to be salmonella/paratyphoid, but would def get this ruled out by a good avian vet,, this off course is looking at the worst scenario,,,,, it could well be as the other posts suggest,,, i certainly hope it is the latter, as it would far easier put right,, good luck in your findings and certainly hope you get to the bottom of this
sapper756 Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 Did you treat your cocks and hens before pairing up m8?
Guest strapper Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 salmonela is a top reason, also ru giving them anything in the water?..have you treated with something? the only way to find out the reason...is as already mentioned..get the droppings tested ..know for sure!...guessing will only prolong the problem!
Wiley Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 there is nothing wrong with the brown nest felts, its the BLACK ONES u need to worry
Guest gladdo Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 yeah your right wiley but id rather not touch them at all...only my opinion mate but whatever works for everyone is fine... now i just would nt touch them nest felts just my opinion.... plus i know what works for me and id never even think of changing it for now... cheers michael...
rubber duck Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 alot of people blamed black nest felts, but the real problem was pmv, ive used black nest felts for years never had any problems , if i was u id get a vet to check your birds as soon as possible hope u get it sorted
mark croker Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 The black nest felts was a one year problem, it will be salmonella/paratyphoid, not much you can do now but learn the hard way, i treat every year for it but i dont always jab, if it was a animal of some sort i would expect to see evidence of it around the loft, and if a pigeon wont move off the nest when somthing as big as me comes in the loft it wont move for no rat, but that is just my opinion andthe only way to tell for sure is get the droppings tested
Guest stb- Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 If the rest of your y b are fine ,what are the parents of the dead y b,s looking like health wise m8 if they a fine they have probably been of the nest and the yb have got chilled with all the cold weather we been having
lanarkshire lad Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 Take one of the ybs to the vet and get it examined.
Guest stb- Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 Take one of the ybs to the vet and get it examined. Seems A good idea but a 5 day old yb thtas died in the nest with be absolutly stinking in a few hours ,decomposing and full of all different bacteria. vets wouldnt find out what caused it in that state and would just waste the mans money
mark croker Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 If the rest of your y b are fine ,what are the parents of the dead y b,s looking like health wise m8 if they a fine they have probably been of the nest and the yb have got chilled with all the cold weather we been having your birds still look in good health with salmonella/paratyphoid and can still win races, its only when it gets really badthat it makes a differance and it might not get that bad ever, some carry and dont show any signs, he needs to get them tested :-/

pigeonscout Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 I lost a couple of young birds last year because of a security light coming on in my garden.
Guest joe muzz Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 had this before with pouters and it was salmonella just like frankdooman said it was birds i got at a show .
Roland Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 Samonell / Pharphoid. Get them sorted EVERYONE of them. It won't go away and thats for sure, and if you want another certainty.... IT will get worse. Me I'd ben in touch waith a mate or so and HAD it done via the time The third reply was posted. Next day delivery via some. £22 with P & P. Soon be this season a total waste... get you phone on and sort it. Paul Newbold with post within minutes of you calling for instance. Would knock up a compound that will sort whatever it is... and perhaps not Baytril.
Newbie2020 Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 what would be the best thing to treat with if you have young dying in the egg or in the nest
Guest IB Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 what would be the best thing to treat with if you have young dying in the egg or in the nest 'Horse before the cart'. Find out what is wrong first. Then put it right. Might have nothing at all to do with disease.
