Guest bigda Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 how much of a 500 mg tab should i give to canker them ?? how do you know if your birds need it or not steve
steve. Posted August 10, 2008 Author Report Posted August 10, 2008 i treat for canker every 2 months and have just moved on to this stuff
Guest bigda Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 i treat for canker every 2 months and have just moved on to this stuff i think your wasting your money why not give your family a flagle tab every 2 months just for the sake of it as flagle is only a product name nothing more are your birds sitting hunched up or have the got there bun-net up at the front, are they not eating, if not your not going to make one bit of difference to them but as you say you treat every 2 months there seems there is nothing wrong with your birds :-/ :-/ :-/
steve. Posted August 10, 2008 Author Report Posted August 10, 2008 got them swabed and they said i have slight canker that needs treating . got drugs from vet but lost dose paper !!!
REDCHEQHEN Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 got them swabed and they said i have slight canker that needs treating . got drugs from vet but lost dose paper !!! I wouldn't have thought a vet would give you 500mg tablets - ot when they are available in bird sized 50mg doses - even for humans - usual dose is 250mg a few times a day

ch pied Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 how much of a 500 mg tab should i give to canker them ??hi mate , a bit hard to split 500mg tabs at the correct dose , this is another avenue you can go down , if you wish , crush 2 , 500 mg tabs , add 20ml vinegar any will do , this helps disolve the flagyl tabs , then add to 2ltr's water , do this for 5 days
Roland Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 has any 1 noticed any side affects in there birds when treating ????? Nah, just the fact that with regular, and same usage it will constantly come back stronger than before.
lofty Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 metronidazole (Flagyl) dose 50mg daily for 3 days to divide 500mg tab crush into powder, use a razor blade to arrange the powder in a long ribbon and divide it into 10 segments -each segment aprox 50mg Lofty PS Side effects of overdose pigeons 'overshoot' when flying to perch appear not to be able to see properly act like they are dizzy if these symptoms occur do not give any more flagyl but ad B vitamins to water and leave birds undisturbed
Guest Vic Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Never give whilst sitting close to hatching. I have seen birds bring the soft food up when treated in this condition.
