how many times do we  see regimes offered  that recommends a flock treatment b4 and after racing

of some sort of medicine apparently endorsed by avet or avian specialist so is this right ir wrong?

I dont believe in blind treatment, but if a bird is ill or has picked up a parasite it must be treated. thats why its important to get regular droppings tests and get a good avian vet who can give you advice. birds that are carrying disease or parasites like worms, canker, high levels of cocci, respiratory disease will never be able to compete against good birds that are disease free. You shouldnt really have to use antibiotics at all really. unless you pick up respiratory disease, salmonella, ecoli etc and these diseases can to a degree be kept at bay by good management and a good dry loft. Sure you cant get away from it once you mix birds with others thats why a good health program is so important. most things you will treat regularly is cocci and canker and sometimes worm infections. get Dr colin Walkers book called the flying vets pigeon health and management. Its £35 but you will save yourself lots by fully understanding pigeon health. blind treatment shouldnt be required.

What you have to remember the sport has moved on a huge amount back in the 60's 70's three were very little birds on the day from 400 miles

agree with this statement, these days people are clocking for fun but years ago you were lucky to get one on the day

in my opinion natural form  is the best a good one never takes sick . BUT if sick yes cure it. if its not broke dont try to fix it

Any bird can become sick if exposed to disease, no amount of natural form will stop that, but you are right if its sick cure it.

Just wanted to add recollections from racing in 1960's. Competition was every bit as keen and performances included day pigeons at 300+ 400+ and 500+ miles, on the day was always the target.

Sick pigeons were the exception. And yes they were disposed of. Double edged sword, nobody really knew much about pigeon diseases, but there wasn't any need to, there were very few about in those days as eradication was an end reult of culling sick stock.

A bird without canker will fly beter than the same bird with canker. This can also be said of a bird if it had respiratory, worms, para, mineral, vitamin deficiency ect ect.

So products /Meds do have a role to play, the trick is knowing when and how to use them.

so do you agree there is no need to pump all the crap that some fanceirs put into their pigeons for no reason at all .me personaly i,m not into all the crap that some of them use its just a fashion thing if he dose it i will do it aswell . the first my doos will see is a canker tablet in may but some fanceirs have spent a fortune on all this different kinds of stuff that is doing their doos no good at all . hense the reason the first hard race and they get clattered and whos to blame yes the race controler or driver the doos havent been watered any excuse apart from the mirror jmo

ITS THE SAME NOW AS IT WAS THEN THE BEST FANCIERS HAD THE BEST BIRDS & BEST SYSTEM  KNOWING WHAT TO FEED AND HOW TO USE WHAT WAS AVAILABLE

Does anyone think that if you reverted back to flying the way they flew in the 60's you win more or less  ::)

Could you explain the reason for this.

Natural immunity. But if the pigeon  has proven itself at the highest level then it will be giving a chance. But only the once.
