jonl6280 Posted December 14, 2009 Report Posted December 14, 2009 how much feeding do you give per bird ? in racing season ? and winter months?
wilkins Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 now after the moult i give just over 1 oz a day for 3 -4 weeks when racing depends on the distance for sprints on sunday 3/4 oz to 1oz , monday 1 oz ,on tuesday 1 and 1/4 oz wed same, thursday all they want feed more for over 150 miles and it depends on time between races,, or you can add 25%-50% barley early in the week stop feeding once they leave the barley then stop feeding reduce the barley as race day comes nearer
Wiley Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 in racing i feed to the predicted weather conditions and wind conditions and distance
ritchie1 Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 1oz in racing up to a 1oz and a quarter just depends on distance they are flying
ALF Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 Just now 100% barley an oz a day and for racing an oz and 1/4 built up accordingly as the distance increases
pigeonscout Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 When they start to leave the barley I stop feeding. How can a big bird need the same as a small bird? how can a bird that sits on the roof all day need the same as a bird that flys for hours? How can a bird in a heated loft need the same as one in a cold loft. They kind of seeds you feed depends on the next race long short hot cold head wind tail wind. There is no one feeding for all lofts and birds you have to know your birds and what they need.

chickadee Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 When they start to leave the barley I stop feeding. There is no one feeding for all lofts and birds you have to know your birds and what they need. I would tend to agree with you there, you have to know your own birds, when you get used to each other you get to know exactly what they need in the way of feeding.
