REDCHEQHEN Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 We are going to pair the stock birds in December, just for a change and have some early youngsters, we don't have many, only room for 5 pairs. Any tips as we have never paired this early before They're currently on and allround mix as all the stock have completed their moult now
Guest youngzimmy Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 same as you would normaly do but erlier
Guest GRIZZLE GRAHAM Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 ONE THING TO BARE IN MIND IS,WHEN YOU HAVE YOUNGSTERS INTHE NEST IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER,MAKE SURE YOU FILL YOUR DRINKERS WITH LUKE WARM WATER EVERYDAY, SO IT IS NOT ICE COLD FOR THE YOUNGSTERS. I USUALLY TAKE DRINKERS OUT AT NIGHT ,AND REPLACE THEM FIRST THING IN THE MORNING.

whiteknight Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 i will pair on the 5th :-/ YOUR KEEN .
greenlands Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Some people say it makes no difference some say it's helps,I like it, so if you have a light in the loft on a timer have it set to come on about 4 am.( it wants to be on anytime now ) this will fool the pigeons into thinking that spring is on its way and you can guess what happens next.Hopper feed, then when the eggs have hatched there's feed in front of the birds when the light comes on.If you can't hopper feed make sure the pots are full when you lock up.Plenty oyster shell grit, even crushed egg shells and plenty of pick stone. If you have any nervous birds don't bother them too much once the eggs get chilled, they might not hatch. mark croker Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Add hemp to your corn to get them horny, have a deep litter for warmth, keep water from frezzing, i dont let the birds out coz i dont want them to leave chicks to long so you need to give them things the mis like salt (thin layer on a plate with grit, pick stone and red mineral is what i use) a week before turn the lights on untill about 10 o.clock to spark the hormones aswell, I had a full hatch rate last year for the first time ever, ( when they are on eggs stop using the lights, this helps stop them breaking eggs, Mark
mark croker Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 I like to feed 3 times in the day when you have young in the nest, butthis is not always possible, the reason i would not hoper feed is coz i feed that way when racing, they dont take as much and lose weight quick, so i think this would happen with my young :-/
Guest HEATHLOFTS Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 :-/ YOUR KEEN . yep very keen why not on the 5th its just going with everyone else in my area
whiteknight Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 :-/ WHY DO YOU WHANT TO START SO EARLY JAMES LOOK AT THE COST OF FEEDING THEM BABYS.
pigeonpete Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 yep very keen why not on the 5th its just going with everyone else in my area Nice to see your keeness mate, but its not as easy as that, winter breeding is tricky if your just starting up, especially when your birds are not settled to your new loft, I would treat them before pairing up aswell, You may get trouble getting them to go down have eggs all at different time etc, i would wait til they are settled a bit more mate, Pigeons need to be in tip top condition for succesful winter breeding in my opinion, there is no rush whatsoever, and you will only be feeding them for extra few months for nowt, so that will save you money i would settle them to there new loft ( have you got them seperated?) treat them for cocci, worms and canker, wait for the weather to pick up a little, february will be fine for them mate :-) makes no difference to there racing ability if bred later. i know your keen mate, but you gotta walk before you can run :-) i know you wont listen, at 16 i would not listen to me either :-) ;D
Guest BRYANBROCK Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 my tip to you would be dont i think pairing to early is in my opinion crazy it far too cold and would not even consider unless i stayed in the carribean unless you got 24 hour heating in the loft me personally no way would im consider pairing early especiially that early what is your reason for this idea of pairing early ????????????????

Guest HEATHLOFTS Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 :-/ WHY DO YOU WHANT TO START SO EARLY JAMES LOOK AT THE COST OF FEEDING THEM BABYS. i have my reasons will talk to you when you come over
REDCHEQHEN Posted November 12, 2009 Author Report Posted November 12, 2009 whats is natural darkness Its not artificial LOL (evil) It means they will be darkness youngsters naturally - as there won't be many daylight hours in the first few months - so you don't have to darken down the loft later
Guest BRYANBROCK Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 whats is natural darkness you got to be kidding yes (dizzy)(dizzy)(dizzy)(dizzy)
mark croker Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 My young this year held flights better than darkness young, but i got some birds in late feb and they were no differant, thats is whythis year i am not pairing so early, but i am going on the dark
Jumbo Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 I tried the Natural Darkness this year and felt they didn't last as well as the darness youngsters , they were quite heavy in the moult by the young bird National in September. omo
Williedoo Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 I tried the Natural Darkness this year and felt they didn't last as well as the darness youngsters , they were quite heavy in the moult by the young bird National in September. omo Same as you Jumbo paired up in December and did'nt get the birds to the National that I had earmarked for that race, falling apart by then. This year half darkness, half natural, pairing up after Blackpool.
