I tend to use Am deliveries and am also going to use Pigeon tracker - both are very good although i not used tracker yet have spoke to Jamie who is doing a job next week and seems to put the pigeon first which is great AM are 27.50 for 4 birds Tracker are approx 30.00 for the same

retired Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 I only have Jamie and Mike on my list now (tracker & AM) I imagine these will be the two to progress ahead of the rest - if customer service is anything to go by anyway.
billy wilson Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 coopers charged me £35 for two birds from kent picked up wednesday am didnt get them till 8.40 this morning, birds were okay as they said fed and watered them but dont like the two day lark.
Diydave Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 i think theres 2 ways of looking at this pigeon courier business, a 24 hour turnaround service is needed if the pigeons are not going to get fed and watered by a profesional parcel courier type business, alternatively, a pigeon fancier who can accomodate pigeons and feed and water them could offer a viable national delivery service that may take up to 5 working days if he has only limited transport srvices (i.e. one van) as long as the pigeons recieve good care in say holding baskets . i myself being 3rd generation pigeon fancier and a courier in the past have been looking at the costs alongside a partner to set up a service, but at the moment are waiting to see how the situation goes, price wise the ones charging 30 to 35 pound look quite fair in our eyes, the foremost concern , must be the welfare of the pigeon and not the cost
Guest strapper Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 how do we know they are being fed and watered?...and wot precautions do they take to minimize liberation? when uve got a van load and need to finish a certain time....a pigeon will always be second on their minds.. so personally i would prefer a 24hr delivery or a same day one ...2 days is a bit risky.
LISTER Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Roger (phantom flyer) still £25 few days delivery BUT birds in great condition when they arrive
Guest chrisss Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Roger (phantom flyer) still £25 few days delivery BUT birds in great condition when they arrive i used him once ,the bird came from manchester to north herts the same day ;D ;D ;D but you try getting hold of him now,
Diydave Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 i understand your different points of view, totally agree that after a long day a driver just wants to get himself home and forget about the birds , but a non fancier 24 hour service might not care as much , see it as "just another parcel" i've seen them thrown about in the past. !! the phantom flyers probably that busy he cannot answer enough calls since amtrak ended . whoever gets louella pigeon worlds business will be the company who gains most ?
OLDYELLOW Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 i noticed Louella had £24.50 for carrage about a week ago but i cant find a delievery charge on there site now , so perhaps someone did have it but has now losted it
PigeonTracker Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Our pices are £35 for long runs but the more picksups per run means the price will probably come down, so for example, the Scotland run on Wednesday, if we get 10 drops on the price will drop £5 for all customers, if we get 15 on the price could go as low as £25 per customer which we hope is a benefit to the fancier. Our plan is to make you benefit the more you use us which can't be all bad. And lets face it, £25 for 4 birds from Wales to Scotland would be a heck of a good price in anyone's books.

ally mac Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 SPDS took 6 birds from Glasgow to Oban for £13.50. Its a pity they dont go down south. Al.
frank-123 Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 what about 4 to cork from manchester john millar might be the man don't no if he goes to the republic though
Fair Play Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Just seen Louella are charging £25.50 for up to 4 birds (updated 5th Sept.) I don't know what SPDS will charge if you get the birds to the depots at Leeds and Manchester to send North. I had one delivered today From Galashiels to Renton same price £13.50 great value and friendly driver.
Diydave Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 good price ally !! BUT ?? cornwall, devon , ireland, are different , the way national distribution works is , local driver drops off up to mid afternoon, picking up those he can as he does his local round, late afternoon after his deliveries he then collects and has to arrive at his local depot by say ? 6pm, this depot then transfers its packages (or pigeons) for national delivery, to other depots throughout the country overnight via, articulated lorrys, then the local driver starts at 7am to begin his local deliverys, so, / a small set up, finds it hard to compete on a price and time delivery service, i do believe that a good set up by a good one man band can have its advantages, if not in competetive price , by care and attention

DOVEScot Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 J Cooper £35 for up to four birds then £2.50 a bird after that, but not highlands and islands of Scotland :-/ http://www.jcooperlogistics.co.uk/www.jcooperlogistics.co.uk/info.php?p=1&pno=0

Just waiting on confirmation from the others and let all know. Always nice to have a surprise when it comes to pay when your told your paying to much and we give you a fiver back, every penny counts. And yes, we 100% care for the pigeons, they're what its all about, we're adamant that pigeons and heavy goods shouldn't be mixed even if it means saving a couple of pounds, lets think of the birds as well as our pockets.
