I've a few reds and mealys this year all hens ,three from a friend and one i bred myself last year , anyways I've them paired to either cheqs or blues , the offspring they've produced are , one pair mealy/blue, mealy/ blue wf , red ch and red ch , anyway all the mealysand reds all look like cocks, everyone off them gave black splashes on them and the blues look to me to be hens . Is this just luck or does a red/mealy hens x blue/ch cocks always produce red /mealy cocks and blue/ch hens ?

Cheers

Hows it going ? Birds getting treated like royalty Or are you one off the lucky ones to be working ? We've been stopped since the lock down , not easy but sharing the bird chores to keep me busy and keeping fit biking down to gourdon from bervie every day , when dry

Thats how it works and next year if you pair some of your splash reds to whatever you can get red hens or chequered hens from them.
