greenlands Posted November 2, 2019 Report Posted November 2, 2019 I'm sorry that I can't offer any more insight into this. As I said, I'm in my third year of my BSc and my dissertation topic is on public perceptions of birds of prey and nothing more.If that's the case Amy,asking pigeon fanciers their opinion on BOP you are obviously going to get a biased opinion, asking the general public,I would doubt they have an opinion except they are beautiful birds and most would probably reply, what are BOP ?
Ryan Hay Posted November 2, 2019 Report Posted November 2, 2019 My name is Amy and I am a third-year student at Nottingham Trent University. I am studying for my BSc Wildlife Conservation degree, and I have created this questionnaire to determine public perceptions of birds of prey across the UK. The data received will be analysed and interpreted for my dissertation. All returned questionnaires will be completely anonymous, so please answer all questions honestly. ‘Birds of prey’ and ‘raptors’ may be used interchangeably throughout. In total, there are 15 mandatory questions and 6 optional questions. However, if you do not want to answer a question, you do not need to. It would be massively appreciated if you could fill this in. It only takes a few minutes of your time. amym389 Posted November 3, 2019 Author Report Posted November 3, 2019 Why not try the RSPB and see what input they have for you. To come onto an open forum and ask questions about this in my eyes isn't the correct place, especially when the Peregrine is destroying the sport, JMO. Because I have over 1200 responses that are in favour of BOP. My entire dataset is biased, so coming on here and asking for a different opinion isn’t going to skew my data in any way, it’s simply going to give me something interesting to talk about. I’m not trying to stir up anything, all I’m trying to do is gain public perceptions of birds of prey based on different stakeholder groups. So pigeon fanciers come under a stakeholder group, hence why I’m posting in here. Hi amy, possibly wortht trying "save our songbirds organisation" on Facebook or www.songbird-survival.org they might be keen to do your survey Hi, thanks for this. I contacted songbird survival a couple of weeks ago but didn’t hear back. Will post in the Facebook groups. Thanks
Kyleakin Lofts Posted November 3, 2019 Report Posted November 3, 2019 You could try the gamekeepers, someone will have a link. I think what you will find is that anyone with an affinity for the land and for nature will be against the un-natural support of any species. Those who understand the land and nature have cared for it for centuries. As will always be the case there were times when certain species were targeted. Peregrines in particular during the wars, when pigeons were the heroic lifesavers of many. We are now in an age where the Peregrines have protection far beyond that which is required. They are now reaching vermin status along with sparrowhawks, etc, destroying the songbird populations and centuries worth of ways of life for many, notwithstanding the employment of many.
