We are back to the same old problem, I am disgusted when people can't be bothered to claim there strays.

They always have 100 excuses ready.

There is another thread live from Julie, has reported a youngbird to club sec and has been trying to contact the owner. She shouldn't have to chase the owner, she is a non fancier and the owner should have made contact within hours of notification, no ifs or buts!

Fanciers realy don't help themselves!

Sorry rant over!

I am happy to say that some kind person must of tossed one of my birds , as i lost it 1st race , ill train it and keep for the comeback races , not sling it back in to next race and end up in same loft. I would of collected any of my ybs , because they can make mistakes and come good.

I do not report them anymore..I get all the excusses under the sun but it boils down to owners will not pay £30 for the return of there bird. I now basket them and toss them just before I relase my bird..

I just released 6 strays and then 16 ybs 100 miles away...When driving back I went through some terrible storms and thought thats the end of them...Suprised as I got home I found one of the strays (irish) sat in the loft...No others managed to get home. ;D

yes Mark thats the problem a lot of people would be glad to have their birds reported so they can get them back  but a few could not care less and the minoraty will always spoil it for the rest  do not be put off reporting strays  as sometimes you will get a nice surprise and always hope if yours go missing that they get reported  and you have a chance of getting them back  if you keep her keep us informed how you get on with her

true i got a reward of a chap a while back after he recieved his bird via amtrak which cost him £35 to get 1 bird and then sent me a cheque for £15 so i would like to say that most people will send for birds i will always report birds if they come in and do what i can to reunite them but i cant release them far from home as i dont drive but i wouldn't accept money but the chap was insistant so i used it to buy my new baby an outfit for when he is born in 4 weeks

I think I'' start a topic section up. For's and againsts ... or Logic v stupidity.

one also Whinging whiners only ... or Do nowt and moan.

Yes will in the next few days set up a couple of them and see what's what! Be absolutely great also to be able to use it as a Referal basis too..

How about 'Starting a Stray center'!? Eek! Are we being serious :o :o ;) ;D

if we are prepared to spend money on training, racing, feeding, medication etc, then we should be prepared to spend £30 to send for them  is it any wonder that us pigeon fanciers get a bad name when all the vast majority of fanciers want to do is make excuses why they cant send for them:( or dont even bother to reply to a reported bird >:(  good manners cost nothing

Ah not responding when one has taken the trouble to report ... Now that does get right up my nose. Like the geezer that phoned and said, 'Haven't to speak at the moment ... I ring you again soon    ' Four weeks later after numerous calls, I finall catched up with him... 'Crikey you still got it! ... thought you'd have got shot o it by now! ... Just back from me holidays like... why I thought I'd contact you when I had more time... etc.' He sent for it! Or I'd gone over with it and charged the going rate... >:(

Lots of people don't want them back so now if there is a contact number I will ring it other than that it is fed until well enough and then tossed up, I wingstamp mine and so should they if they don't then 9 times out of 10 they don't want it back so if they can't be bothered neither can I.

i reported a bird today was lost last week at race from Driffield , sent it to Hull sent it to Driffield came back both times on it's own , rang chap up said lost at Driff i asked where was he roughly and told me 20 miles south of my race point this week , ill give bird to driver to up at Race point to return it to it's owner. Job be a good un and no cost involved to owner , if i cant get bird near then a courier will do it but not my 1st choice for any bird that enters my loft.

totally agree with what you did roland and would have done the same thing myself  i report birds cos i hope that they would report mine  i have to say that ive met some really nice people when reporting birds but sadly they are in the minority

ps  if i remember rightly a bird that entered somebodys loft as a stray later went on to win a national for the finder after it was transfered over to him    i think his first name was les?
