We have just returned home from a 4 day break, with very young youngsters in the nest a club mate kindly looked after the birds so most of the youngsters were either just hatching or were up to 5 days old and I had stapled the rings on pieces of string to the upper sides of the boxes and all but two had been rung in the stock loft - but - it looks like I've got a red chequer (cock) The first I have bred in over 10 years! (parents are a mealie hen and a dark, almost black chequer cock purchased last year- last year they produced 2 hens - a smutty blue bar and a dark chequer, and a mealie cock) so I'm delighted.
