  2. A thank you from Charlotte's Mum: Sincere apologies for the delay in getting in touch. Thank you so much for sending through the massive cheque raised from Pigeon Basics sales. It is truly amazing and much appreciated. I have posted thanks on Facebook and Twitter but obviously wanted to thank you personally. I will, of course, keep you updated as and when I can. As requested, here are a couple of recent photos of her. Many thanks again. 4. The Joe Murphy Column The past weekend Kevin had 2 races with the main event being the Scottish national first race of the year from Buckingham while the other race was an Angus federation race from Leicester. The weather forecast predicted that Saturday was not going to be a good racing day however the Sunday was to be much better. The federation cancelled their race marking on the Friday and basketed on Saturday afternoon so that the birds would be down at the race point in plenty of time to rest prior to having an early morning liberation the following day. The Scottish national called off their race on the Saturday mid-morning and it was hoped to have an early liberation on the Sunday morning. There was low cloud and poor visibility at both race points early on so it turned out to be a waiting game until the sun came out to burn the poor weather away. The Angus and Dundee federations reported a liberation at 10-30 am with no wind at the race point. The national reported they would update their website nearer lunch time. Margaret and I travelled up to Arbroath in the hope of watching birds come home from both races, we were 100 yards from Kevin’s house when my mobile phone rang with Kevin telling us the national had held over. I said to him ‘If you look out your window you will see us draw up at your house’. What a ‘Let-down’ regarding the national with the birds being in the baskets for 4 days. Plus the majority of fanciers would be at their work on the Monday and some people would therefore miss their bird’s arrival home. We settled down to watch for the Leicester birds and had 2 birds came together with the red cock going into the loft first to win 1st club and 1st east section with the other bird mucking about for ¾ of a minute before going over the pad to win 3rd club 3rd east section. This red cock is a full brother to our 18th open SNFC Ypres winner with 2404 birds competing, also our 19th open SNFC Clermont 1500 birds, 86th open and 134th open SNFC Alencon 573 miles. His sire is a direct son of Gilmour Brothers of Levin ‘Robbie’s Boy’ winner of 1st open SNFC Falaise, while his dam is a direct daughter of Ritchie & Whyte’s ‘Last Chance’ winner of 1st north section (only bird in race time) 42nd open SNFC Tours flying 721 miles. The second pigeon to win 3rd club is from a full bother to the sire of the winner again bred by Gilmour Brothers this cock is the sire of our 4th open SNFC Alencon 573 miles, while the dam was bred by my good friend Guy Reed of the Isle of Wight. She is bred from a direct son of ‘Wing Down’ winner of 2nd 4th & 7th National Flying Club Tarbes flying 676 miles, the dam of Guy’s hen is a direct daughter of Geoff & Catherine Cooper’s ‘George’ winner of 1st open NFC Tarbes, he is also the grandsire of ‘Farmer George’ winner of 1st International Bordeaux for the Coopers. So you will see Kevin’s pigeons are bred for the job and let’s hope they can go on to achieve better things in the future Scottish national races this year. As a matter of interest Kevin had 32 birds home dropping one hen, he was very pleased as he sent 3 late breds to this nearly 300 mile race point and had the 3 of them home. These will now be stopped for the year and allowed to develop and moult out for the 2017 season. I received a phone call from Guy Reed telling me that he had timed in the same pigeon 130 from this week’s NFC Messac race. You may remember he won 255th open from 8000 birds in the first NFC race from Alencon but Guy is not sure if he will make the result from this week’s Messac race. Still to be his first bird home from 2 nationals in only his ever 2 races of his life is quite good performances. Our 4th open Hen Eye of 4th open Alencon hen Scottish National Flying Club The SNFC had 521 members sending 4328 birds these were liberate on Monday 6th June at 08-30 at Buckingham; I travelled up to Kevin’s alone as Margaret had the 3 grandchildren as the schools were off on the Monday. Kevin phoned to say that he has some holidays to take and would have the afternoon off work. It was a lovely sunny day as I travelled up however about 5 miles from Arbroath the weather changed with mist and thick cloud rolling in from the North Sea. I had travelled up in T shirt and by the time I reached Kevin’s I had to put a fleece on and it was quite cold. We heard of the early birds into the south section and Edinburgh area as we awaited an arrival but have to say WE were not at the races. Our first bird came with another bird that never landed and our timer was a sister to the bird I donated to the BHW Show of the Year at Blackpool in January 2016. Their sire is a chequer cock named ‘Bernard’ he was purchased direct from Bernard Deweerdt he is direct son of ‘CLOVIS’ Bernard’s most consistent racing cock. The dam of our timer was bred by my good friend Mark Gower and her sire is a direct of KEDIRTJE (father of CLOVIS mentioned above) As a matter of interest we had 12 home from our entry of 15 with ALL yearling’s home and we dropped 3 x 2 year olds which was quite disappointing. I must say that everyone that I have spoken to regarding this national race has said they also had good returns. This is testimony to the good work the conveyers have carried out looking after the national pigeons so WELL DONE to each one of you. More praise is also due to the secretary Mary Pryde and her assistants who have produced the probable result within 2 days which is FANTASTIC. It was good to see region F (extreme west of Scotland) winning the national and the partnership of Cowan & Findlay (Mark Findlay who sends me in the Ayrshire South Road results) of Ardrossan will be very proud so well done lads. They timed a yearling pied hen doing a velocity of 1477 for the 296 miles. It was interesting to note that 5 region winners were timed within the first 12 open positions in the race. These being the winner of course plus 1st region A 2nd open was Jimmy Dalgleish of Ecclefechan; 1st region C 4th open is Ronnie Stevenson of Leven; 1st region B 5th open is Jimmy Jackson of Dunbar; 1st region E 12th open is Davie Allison of Hamilton, 1st region D 66th open is P Keogh of Broxburn and finally 1st region G is Stuart Maskame of Peterhead who unfortunately did not make the open result. Well done to the above and to all the fanciers who make the result. We now look forward to this weekend’s race from Littlehampton and I wish you all the very best of luck. Results Angus Federation The members sent 357 birds to Leicester with a 10-30 liberation with no wind at the race point. Ayrshire North Road Federation Ayrshire North Road Federation news from Andy Kyle who tells us that the race from Montrose was held on the 28th of May with 32 members sending 450 pigeons these were liberated at 11-00 into a light North East wind. Valley North Club winner and 1st federation doing a velocity of 1333 is J L Dumigan with his pigeon a 2 year old blue cock that now has 2 x 1st federations wins to his credit. His sire is a son of the Golden Gaby when paired to a daughter of Eisenhower. These pigeons were purchased from R McCarrell of Glenview Lofts who purchased them from Mark & Dicky Evans as young birds. Cumnock Club winner and 2nd federation doing 1332 velocity is Alfie Lawrence with a yearling blue cock bred from Gerry Clements ‘Tracker’ lines crossed Mark Gilbert of Southfield from his ‘Ted’ lines. This pigeon has previously won as a young bird and is the same pigeon that won 1st club 3rd federation from Perth 2 weeks ago. Mauchline Club winner and 12th federation on a velocity of 1248 is ‘Sanny’ Mathieson, his pigeon is a 3 year old blue hen direct out of a 1st federation Fraserburgh and is a Centenary Medal winner. Her sire was a gift pigeon from club secretary John Cannon, while the dam was from Jeff Greenway from his ‘Leo Hermans’ bloodlines. Stranraer North Road winner was bred and raced by Robertson & McCurdy and was doing a velocity of 648. They timed a yearling chequer cock sired by a 4 year old Staff Van Reet who had 16 races on the South road. He was paired to a 2 year old late-bred hen that was raced 3 times on the South. Central Federation Broxburn Club news from Bernie Britton who writes, ‘Hi Joe please find the club and federation result from our Newark race were 5 member’s sent 180 bird’s these were liberated at 09-45 into an east wind. Taking the 1st x 3 places in the club and 1st x 3 in the federation is Gordon MacKenzie with the winner a hen flying roundabout. Her sire is a mealie cock bred from Davie Blain’s Combine winner when paired to Gordon’s number 1 stock hen (Spavin crossed Gabby) and is a winner of 2 x 1st federations for Gordon. The 2nd and federation winner is from Gordon’s race team of Gabby’s. His 3rd club and 3rd federation is a pigeon bought at John Smith of Duz Wurk sale when mated to Gordon’s No 1 stock hen. John McNeill was 4th 6th 13th 17th & 18th federation with Hamish Ferguson wining 5th & 16th federation. As you can see Joe our club put up a great performance in the federation from this race, yours Bernie’. East of Scotland Federation News from press officer John Baillie of Tranent who reveals that the East of Scotland federation were racing from Wetherby on Saturday 4th June which was another good decision made by race controller Bobby Graham. With basketting on the Friday for a Saturday race and I think this was the only liberation held on the Saturday. Bobby waited until the weather was right and had John Parry releasing the birds at 12-30 into North to North East wind turning East on route. Topping the Federation this week is the partnership of Mr & Mrs Burgess of Ormiston. This loft also takes 5th & 7th open positions in the federation. The consistent loft of J McNeil of Tranent takes the 2nd and 3rd positions with 4th and 10th places going to last week’s federation winner T Waddell. We then move up to Elphinstone for 6th open to the loft of Tom & Scott McEwen then we are back down to Tranent for 8th position to D Gillan with yours truly John Baillie winning 9th open. Prestonpans HC. This week from Wetherby we had last week’s federation winner winning the club again for the 2nd week running namely Tom Waddell with his winner a yearling cock, from his Soontjens family of birds. Filling 2nd spot is Tom & Scott McEwen they timed a 2 year old hen bred from the best of Mark Gilberts bloodlines, the sire is a grandson of ‘Emiel’ while the dam is bred from a sister of the ‘Gypsy’ from Paul Stobbs. The 3rd place is taken by a yearling to the loft of John Baillie, this is a Van Lint cock bred from stock purchased from Dean Pallet. From last week’s race from Leicester, the bird taking 3rd position for John Bird is from his Louella Jan Aarden family, many thanks yours John’ Fife Federation Dunfermline LRPC news from David Kennedy who writes ‘Hi Joe, bit of a rush this week with a 2 day holdover but here goes. This week’s nomination winner is Eddie McWilliams and the 2 bird is won by John Robertson, all the best for the nationals to you and Kevin yours David’. The Pentland Hills Federation News from Andy Miller who informs us that the federation comeback race from Wetherby on Saturday 4th June were 15 clubs sent 2023 birds, I think we were the only federation in Scotland to race that day so race controller Bobby Graham must have a different forecast to the rest of the organisations. The birds were liberated at 12-30 into a North East wind and the birds tumbled in, which is good to see, as it doesn’t always happen these days with raptors etc. Winning 1st New Lothian and 1st federation is my club mate the ‘Laird of Corstorphine’ Ronnie Bremner who timed his yearling Rene Nauwelaerts hen sent sitting 14 day eggs. This hen is a bred around Ronnie’s 2 great cocks ‘Willie Bauld’ winner of 10 times a federation prize winner and ‘The One and Only’ winner of 3rd & 4th open SNFC Ypres. Joe’s Joke I found myself in a pub in Cork in Erie when a group of American tourists came in. One of the Americans said, in a loud voice, "I hear you Irish think you're great drinkers, well I bet $5,000 that no one here can drink 20 pints of Guinness in 30 minutes." The bar was silent, but the American noticed one Irishman leaving. No one took the bet and 40 minutes later, the Irishman who left returned and said, "Hey Yank, is yer bet still on?" "Sure" said the American, "20 pints in 30 minutes for a bet of $5,000." Grand, "replied the Irishman, "so pour the pints and start the clock." It was very close but the last drop was consumed with 2 seconds to spare. "OK Yank, pay up" said the Irishman. "I'm happy to pay, here's your money" said the American. "But tell me, when I first offered the wager, I saw you leave. Where did you go?' "Well sir", replied the Irishman, "$5,000 is a lot of money to a man like me, so I went to the pub across the road to see if I could do it. 6. 1205 for me :emoticon-0136-giggle: :emoticon-0136-giggle:
  7. Problem is most fanciers are just not interested in what happens they "just want to race there doos" Excuses are easier to find than answers until it comes to cost or losses them we hear them squeal :emoticon-0136-giggle:
  8. Unions only comply with DEFRA rule as do transporter manufacturers but they work on a maximum of birds in a crate NOTHING stops us from reducing it as long as birds cannot be thrown about in crates too much Ps Unions, Feds and clubs DO not comply with DEFRA rules which are Law and will be enforced in due time then some will be in trouble big time
  9. Here is a classic Derick taken from this site Basketing is going ahead on !!!!!! at normal time, 22 birds per crate, first message will be !!! on!!!!!! although there is a good chance that they wont get up till around noon, if necessary I will get them taken back to !!!!!! if the weather south of the !!!! is slow to clear This Fed sent 436 birds???? My own Fed are running the lorry 3/4 empty but last year were were told we must put 15 per crate after we put 12 in a crate Why are we obsessed with putting too much in a crate then wondering why so much losses I do not believe this is the only problem we have Any references used her are for this topic and discussion only and are not meant to be derogative to any one or organisation
  10. Hi Fellow Fancier/s, Air Sport Internationale who are the Race Organisers for this great international race have decided to have a Third & Final Shipping date on MONDAY 20th JUNE 2016. This shipment has been granted because quite a few fanciers from Europe did not have youngsters that were ready to ship on either of the first two shipping dates because of other commitments. The UNITED KINGDOM RACE TEAM have already sent out 440 top class pigeons in the first two shipments on the 9th and 30th MAY 2016 and it would be great to get a few more United Kingdom pigeons entered into this fantastic race. Please take a look at the pigeons in your loft/s and see if you can find anything to send or bring up to me on the appointed date. The age of the youngsters is not really a problem as the older youngsters will travel better. The pigeons will be easy to break into the brand new lofts at our new venue as there are very few pigeon fanciers in this area. All pigeons will need to be with me by mid-day on MONDAY 20th JUNE 2016. If you wish to send them a few days earlier by a pigeon courier, that will not be a problem as I have first class holding facilities. If you have lost or not got an Official Entry Form and Booking Form, please let me know ASAP and I will attached them to an email and forward onto you immediately, so that these can be sent down or brought down with your pigeons. If you have credit in your Air Sport Account, you could use this money against your race entries. If you decide to enter some pigeons please either contact me by phone, text or email and tell me how many pigeons you wish to send, so that I know what to expect on the day. If you have already sent some pigeons on the 1st or 2nd shipments, why not enter another team? It could be one of these that comes up trumps. Pigeon fanciers that have competed in the past and for some reason do not enter the following year, always say that they really miss the fantastic 3 months through our winter months where you have two races a week from November 2016 through to the beginning of February 2017. Come on guys and gals, try to enter a few and support out UNITED KINGDOM NATIONAL RACE TEAM in the 21st SAMDPR. Best of luck for the remainder of the 2016 season and I hope that you do decide to enter a few of your top class pigeons into The 21st SAMDPR. By entering some pigeons into this race could be the best investment you have ever made in your life. Over $1 Million US Dollars (£715,000) are up for grabs in the Final Race from 336 miles on Saturday 4th February 2017. You could become "A WORLD CHAMPION" overnight. Yours in sport, Paul. 13. The Joe Murphy Column As I write this column the last week of May I’ve started to close the nest boxes for the year as I split the birds up, I still have a couple of late breds that should be moved within the next few weeks and then my season is over as far as the stock pigeons are concerned. A few of my friends are going to race some of my youngsters for me this year and I wish them all the best, but to be honest it will be at least next year before I find out if there are any ‘champions’ amongst them. However I still have too many cocks and these will have to be cut down so that I have the correct number of pairs for next year. I might wait until October before advertising them but I have made my mind up to get down to a more manageable team. I had one of my mates tell me that some of his club mates remarked that I’m always going on about the Deweerdt pigeons in my column. Blinking hell, if these are the birds that are winning for Kevin and I why would I write about something else. You will also read that we have won with this family crossed with Crammond & Langstaff so why not give this partnership some publicity as a THANK YOU. I was brought up to be honest and one thing for sure is I will not say a pigeon is bred from this or that if it is NOT, just because it has a ‘fantastic pedigree’. You are only kidding yourself if you tell lies and one day you will be caught out. I have always been a great believer in keeping records of my birds and they are now on the computer, so when a bird is sold the pedigree goes with it. I was always told ‘If you cannot trust the man you are obtaining pigeons from then there is no point in purchasing them’ and that is as good today as it was when first spoken. I have now started to concentrate on my garden and will collect my plants for my hanging baskets at the end of this week 3rd June. Helpful Fanciers I have received a few phone calls from none fanciers or fanciers who require some help in getting one of their birds collected. One of these was Liam Paisley a pigeon fancier from Dublin who got a pigeon reported from the Isle of Arran by a non-fancier. He was having trouble trying to get the pigeon picked up by a courier and wondered if there was any chance I would be able to help him out. The person who had the pigeon was willing to bring the pigeon to Caledonian MacBrayne Ferry terminal at Ardrossan on the mainland. I spoke to SHU president Ian Noble who is about 20 minutes away from Ardrossan and he was going to collect the bird once contact had been made with the people on Arran. At the present time this is still ongoing as I’m awaiting Liam to come back to me however I will keep you informed of the progress of Liam’s pigeon. Wattie Sharp also helped me out by contacting a lady Diane (none fancier) who had reported a ‘stray’ pigeon sitting on the house roof across from her home. The bird came down to the bird table for some food and drink but Diane could not catch it. She wonders if someone could come and assist her in capturing the bird. As luck would have it Wattie phoned me to report that he saw a hawk attack a pigeon while he was taking items to the local recycle centre and when he got over to assist the bird it was dead. He took the ring from its leg SU14NE 7387 and also the ETS ring and if the owner of this bird wishes these back they can contact Wattie on 07875737486. To get back to the stray when Wattie contacted the lady in Kinross the bird had not been seen for the past 2 days. My thanks to Wattie and Ian Noble for all their efforts in assisting the above fancier’s this is what ‘Sportsmen’ are all about. The 3rd bird is a black cock bred from a son of ‘Snowcap’ winner of 4th open SNFC Reims when he was mated to the black hen - the dam of the second bird mentioned above. Ayrshire South Road Federation News from Mark Findley who writes; ‘Hi Joe, on Saturday 14th May we sent 907 birds to Wetherby flying approximately 170 miles to the centre of the federation. The birds were liberated at 08-30 am into a north wind and topping the fed on a velocity of 1172 is Alan Connelly of Irvine Newtown HS. Alan timed his 2 year old chequer white flight cock to take first place, this cracking cock was a gift from his good friends Mr & Mrs J Ramsay of Dalry HS. It is worth mentioning Joe this is Alan's first old bird season and he has already won 3 races in Irvine HS. I'm sure anyone who knows Alan well enough can see many more great performances coming up from him. Congratulations Alan on your very first federation topper. On Sunday 22nd May due to our diminishing birdage it made sense for us to go with Lanarkshire federation who had made the decision due to the poor weather further south to go to Wetherby. So with 491 Ayrshire birds being liberated with over 6000 Lanarkshire birds at 07-00am, into a light south west wind the race was on. First up with a velocity of 1274 is Rab Donegan of Darvel HS. Rab timing a blue late bred yearling cock. This good cock being raced celibate has the top winning genes as his sire being the same as ‘The Bolt’". This cock has won over £1000 for Rab and good friend John Simpson of Ardeer HS at Ayrshire breeder buyer in 2014 so well done Rab. It is also worth mentioning many Ayrshire fanciers reported their best returns of the season so far from this race. On the 28th May again we went with Lanarkshire federation this time to Melton Mowbray with Ayrshire liberating 410 in a total convoy of over 4600 birds. The strings were cut at 07-15am into a light north east wind and topping the federation fresh from being 2nd fed the previous week is Hugh Wallace of Darvel HS. Hughie’s yearling blue hen was raced celibate and is of Etienne Meirlaen bloodlines. (Extreme long distance) this was indeed fantastic racing from Hugh Wallace. On behalf of Ayrshire federation I would like to thank the Lanarkshire officials for transporting our convoy for the last two weeks, and we look forward to working with this organisation again perhaps somewhere in the young bird programme. And to round up I would also like to wish everybody all the very best in the up and coming Scottish National Flying Club races ‘Good luck to all’. Thanks once again for adding us to your column Joe yours Mark Findlay’. Ayrshire North Road Federation From the Arbroath race flown on 22nd May there were 38 members sending 593 pigeons liberated at 07-00 with No Wind at the race point. Reports inform us that the pigeons split into 2 batches with one batch of around 100 pigeons left right away, the other batch circled for a time before departing. This turned out quite a sticky race with the early pigeons making good time, but many were delayed and reports of ‘birds of prey’ attacks and birds returning injured indicating the 2nd batch was attacked, which would explain the gaps in returning pigeons later on. Overall returns were good at around 66% on the day rising to 75% or more during the following days. Cumnock Club winner and 1st federation on a winning velocity of 1305 is J Auld with his pigeon is a yearling blue white flight hen. She has previously won 1st club from Thornton as a young bird in 2015, as well as winning 3rd club 3rd federation from Arbroath as young bird and now wins 1st club, 1st federation from Arbroath in 2016. As a matter of interest she was bred by J L Dumigan. Valley North Club winner and 3rd federation is W McCann and A Brown with a yearling blue cock sired by a James McCann pigeon from Vandenabeele lines. The dam is from a Rod Wilson pigeon from ‘Tyson lines’. His winning velocity was 1293ypm. Mauchline Club winner on 1203 is owned and raced by Kory Galloway with his pigeon a 2 yearling red cock whose sire is a Frank Bristow pigeon, from Frank's ‘Lerwick’ lines. His dam is a Starview Busschaert from I Morrison. This pair has bred a pigeon that flew Lerwick for Kory. Carrick Club winner is raced by the partnership of Jamieson and Cameron with a velocity of 1078; she is a yearling chequer hen and was bred by Paul Swindel. She was un-flown as a young bird, but lightly trained. Stranraer North Road winner on a velocity of 654 is the Robertson & McCurdy partnership who timed a yearling blue Staff Van Reel crossed Vandenabeele cock. He won 2nd last week from Perth and the Stranraer members had a very sticky race from Arbroath this week. He was picked up injured by Pathhead fancier Andrew Bertram from the SNFC Portland race. 2nd club and 11th & 14th federation is J Ferguson with 2 cocks that have been unpaired this year and are flying spare they are bred from stock of his good friends George, Willie & Paul Macaloney of Coatbridge. In 3rd club & 12th federation is Gordon MacKenzie with his good Combine winner chequer cock from last year, I hope this is ok Joe all the best to and the family and good luck to Kevin and you for the nationals, yours Bernie’. Prestonpans Homing Club, this week’s winner is Tam Waddell with his 3 year old Blue cock bred from his Kevin Lawson stock. The 2nd & 3rd spots are taken by John Bird. The hen in 2nd position is 3 year old with some great performances. She is a granddaughter of John's famous pigeon ‘Bits & Pieces’ a previous winner of the BHW/ Joe Murphy Sporting Challenge. As a youngster she topped the federation from Newark, then as a yearling she won 2nd open Pentland Hills midweek yearling race winning £1650. Then in 2015 she won 4th club 4th federation Ridsdale before returning from Tow Law with a smashed up and broken leg. Took months to recover but with this result I'm sure there is more to follow from this wonderful hen. The 3rd position is taken by a 2 year old cock, many thanks yours John B’. 22. The Joe Murphy Column Received a phone call at the weekend from my good mate Guy Reed of the Isle of Wight who informed me he had timed in a yearling cock from the National Flying Club’s Fougeres race. This bird should make the open result but the good news was it was one of a pair of birds that I bred Guy last year and this was his first race of his life from an entry of over 8000 birds competing. The mother of this cock is the same dam of my son’s Kevin 2nd club winner this week in the Arbroath club. (See below in results) She was bred by Bernard Deweerdt being from a full brother to his famous champion ‘Iban’ when he was paired to a daughter of ‘Kedir’, again 2 of the top pigeons in the Deweerdt racing loft. The sire of Guy’s yearling cock is a mealy cock named ‘Mystical Joe’ bred by Sheldon Leonard of Arklow. His dam is a direct Daniel Aerens of Belgium being a full sister to his famous hen ‘I had a Dream’ winner of 1st international Hens, 5th international Barcelona. The sire of ‘Mystical Joe’ is De Barron’ a direct son of Daniel’s 1st open national Orange winner. So you can see Guy’s yearling is bred for the job and let’s hope he goes on to improve over the next few years. Before leaving the Fougeres race my I congratulate fellow Isle of White fancier Eddie Rann on winning 5th section B 8th open in this race. Guy was also telling me that a friend of his Bryn Holmes won 1st section 5th open Welsh South Road National Coutance this same weekend flying 207 miles with a cock bred from 2 of his Deweerdts. This is a brother to his 22nd open National winner from Tarbes in 2014 so Bryn is well pleased. I also noticed that my good friends Ian Crammond and Nigel Langstaff from Fontwell in West Sussex won 5th section 5th open BICC Alencon race. This is the same blue cock who won 2nd section 3rd open NFC Saintes last year for the partnership, well done lads. Nigel Langstaff & Ian Crammond with Kevin Murphy Sheldon Leonard bred Mealy Cock 'Mystical Joe' Results Angus Federation The members sent 533 birds to Wakefield liberated at 08-30 hours into a south wind taking the first 4 places plus 8th & 20th are the Macaulay Fergusson & Curran partnership from Forfar. His club mages David J Liddle is 5th & 18th while Eric Galloway is 6th followed by Bob Baldie in 7th 15th 16th & 17th places. Charlie Cameron of Arbroath breaks the normal ‘stranglehold’ with Forfar dominating the result winning 9th place. Ian Scott of Forfar is 10th 11th & 13th places. Davie Glen of the same club is 12th and 14th with Gourdon members D & D Hay winning 19th place. In 2nd 3rd & 4th places is Kevin J Murphy with the first bird a hen her sire is a Crammond & Langstaff and is the sire of 2 x 1st prizes last year he is inbred to Euro Diamond. The dam is also the mother of 2 x 1st prize winners and is a pure Bernard Deweerdt being from a full brother to his famous ‘Iban’ when he was paired to a daughter of ‘Kedir’, again 2 of the top pigeons in the Deweerdt racing loft. Kevin’s 2nd & 3rd birds are sisters being pure Leo Van Rijn from a direct Dutch cock named ‘Leo’ when mated to the mother of ‘Lucky’ a winner of 7 x 1st prizes and a 4 times SNFC prize winner. ‘Lucky’s mother (also a Leo Van Rijn) was known as ‘Jenny’ after Adrian Duggins late wife who bred the mother of Lucky. Ayrshire North Road Federation News from Andy Kyle who informs us that the federation was at Perth Racecourse on 14th May for the 3rd race with 42 members sending 690 pigeons: liberated at 08-00 into a light north wind. This race always seems to be a strange one with some returning well and others struggling along later as there are 2 valleys they can take and this is the probable cause however overall returns were good. Valley North Club winner and 1st Federation with a winning velocity of 1487ypm; this bird is owned and raced by W McCann and A Brown. This pigeon won 2nd federation from Thurso in 2015 he is a 2 year old blue cock sired by a Sandy Owens pigeon bought at a young bird sale. This hen, as a young bird won Montrose and was a consistent flyer through-out the season. She was flying as a widowhood hen and this system is brand new to Kory’s lofts, but from the last 3 race results it seems to be working. Bloodlines are as follows sire and dam are both direct Lambrecht’s and this pair has bred 3 pigeons to win 5 races. Carrick Club winner and 32nd federation is owned and raced by Mrs E Nibloe and he is a 2 year old blue cock, bred from their own family of pigeons. Good SNFC Birds This will be my last week of highlighting these Good SNFC birds this year as the first inland national is next week and I start to assist Kevin with his team of birds for the nationals. Plus some of these birds could hopefully improve their performances achieved so far in the club and can progress to greatness within the Scottish National (time will tell). The first of this week’s 3 birds belongs to Robert Reid of Beath in Ayrshire with blue bar cock SU13A 279. He won 21st section F from Buckingham in 2014 flying a distance of 298 miles to his home. Last year he won twice the first race from Portsmouth he won 3rd section F flying 370 miles and then he was doubled back into the Eastbourne race a distance of 401 miles and won 13th section F, so we wish Robert all the best with his blue cock in this year’s national programme. We now come to the Aberdeen loft of A. A. Williamson with his chequer cock SU13AB 1353 in 2014 he was sent to Ypres a distance of 482 miles and won 5th section G 58th open, then in 2015 he was entered into the Eastbourne race (should have been Ypres but the race was changed) 454 miles and he won 7th section G. He then went to the last old bird national of the season from Clermont a distance of 571 miles and won 6th section G. So therefore he needs to win 1 more section prise from over the channel to achieve his SNFC Silver Award and we wish him all the very best in this new season. The last bird featured this week belongs to Jocky Scott of Kennoway with his blue bar cock SU11DF 2809 (who was bred by Bruce MacKenzie of Dundee). In 2012 he was entered into the Maidstone race a distance of 376 miles and won 14th section C 42nd open. Two years later he was sent to Ypres a distance of 444 miles and he won 8th section C 36th open. Then last year he was entered into the Billericay race point a distance of 349 miles and won 20th section C 73rd open, proving he is a very consistent cock and we wish Jocky all the best with him in 2016. Joe’s Joke A horse trainer is getting his horse ready to go down to the start of the big race. As he is leading him down one of the stewards stops him in his tracks and says ‘What are you feeding that animal?’. The trainer states it is only broken biscuits and the steward takes the biscuit and smells it. The trainer says ‘You can eat it guvnor, it is all on the level’ and with that the trainer eats a piece of the biscuit and the steward follows suit. When they get down to the starting line the trainer tells the jockey to ‘Keep him on hold lad and when 3 furlongs from home let him have his head and go for it. Get to the front and nothing will pass you’. If anything does it will only be me or the Duke of Norfolk’.
