  2. New planning rules for log cabins, shed and summerhouses! > Home > News > New planning rules for log cabins, shed and summerhouses! Friday 24 October 2008 2:14 PM New Planning permission regulations have been brought into force in the UK. This article is intended as a starting point for your research into whether or not you requuire planning permission for your log cabins, summerhouses or sheds. First of all, it is important to note that UK planning permission laws changed on 1st October 2008. This means that the following rules and regulations apply to any log cabins, summerhouses and sheds ordered after this date. It is always a good idea to contact and submit plans to your local County Council Planning Officer before building your cabin to check whether planning permission will be required. Below is a rough guideline as to the new planning permission rules: 1. The total area of garden covered must not be more than 50%. 2. The building must not be situated further than the front of your house. 3. Overall height from ground level to ridge must not exceed more than 4 metres. 4. Overall height from ground level to ridge must not exceed more than 2.5 m within a 2 m range of any boundary. A building with overall height exceeding 2.5 m in height and placed within 2 m of any boundary will require planning permission. 5. Height of the eaves must not exceed 2.5 m. 6. No verandas higher than 30cm from ground level. 7. On designated land buildings to the side of a property will require planning permission. (Designated land includes National Parks, The Broads, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Conservation areas and World Heritage Sites.) 8. Buildings within the grounds of a listed property will require planning permission. However, it is possible for us to provide technical plans on request for submission to your local planning officer. 25. post off another site- RADIO SIGNAL - going off air Notification has been received from the National Physical Laboratories of its intention to turn off the UK's radio signal for maintenance. The radio signal will be shut down between 07.00 & 22.00 hrs each day from Tuesday 3rd May to Friday 13th May. This news and its late notification will obviously cause a degree of disruption for those clubs using a radio-clock as its time signal source. The Bricon system must take its time signal from an automated time signal provided by either a radio-clock or a GPS receiver. Manual setting of the time on a master has recently been banned globally by the F.C.I. (UK unions are members of the F.C.I.) The manual setting of the time signal is banned in Holland, Belgium and Germany for security reasons. ADVICE FOR CLUBS USING A RADIO-CLOCK DURING THIS PERIOD A radio-signal time synchronisation of the Master should be carried out between 00.01 and 06.59 hrs on each day that it is required for use. The Bricon Club-Master only requires one time synchronisation to be carried out in each day (midnight to midnight). Once the time synchronisation has been carried out during this morning period, then it will be good for the rest of the day. Each club with a radio-clock should ensure that it has access to the system to carry out the necessary synchronisation during this period. NB: A radio-clock may possibly retain a valid signal (indicated by the black mast) throughout the day, but this cannot be guaranteed. CLUBS USING A GPS RECEIVER ..... the blue mouse Clubs using a GPS receiver to obtain its time signal from Satellite are not affected during this period, and need not change its routine. MARKING ON OTHER BRANDS The radio signal shut down will affect the other system brands that each use the radio-clock. Where a master system permits manual setting of its time signal, there are no guarantees that the Speedy clock can use it for basketing. It is therefore advised that where a Bricon Club-Master is available then it should be synchonised and used. Indeed where a Bricon Club-Master has been successfully synchronised, it should be used for the basketing of all ETS clock brands. GPS RECEIVERS Radio-clocks were supplied as part of the Bricon Club-Master system throughout 2007 and 2008. Since then new systems supplied include a GPS receiver instead, though under normal circumstances each will perform equally well. GPS receivers are available for purchase for £75 plu
