open door is alot faster, with traps pigeons will walk up and down on your landing board just starring in can be frustrating. The only way to get round it is to make them trap superfast by your feeding, once they learn that they got to trap for food they soon realize as soon as you call, i whistle my birds in, that they have got to trap as soon as, if they dont trap in when i want them too, they know that there gunna have to spend a night out or come in without food, the following night, they come in like rockets, if any muck you about next time but come in say like you said 20 minutes after the first few pigeons, they will not recieve any food, only the pigeons that entered when i wanted them to enter, they soon get into a routine in the end, that they know they have to trap. Always make sure youve got the food in the loft also so when they look through the trap they know the foods there. Also good idea to keep them in a routine, if there out at 5.am then in at 6am. fed there full quota and then watered, and then the next morning there yesterdays feed should be out of the system and then at 5am out again. If using a trap always find it essential to learn them thats the only entrance to the loft as squeakers. Hope this helps mate, this is how i trained my ybs to use traps in the past right or wrong, they soon learned all about the traps and that my call represented feeding time
