  5. its very hard to compete with the one bird but i have done in the past, however the thing is if you lose him there will be no age in your loft,to back up your yearlings, its bacially down to the individual as if u lose this cock you mite aswell basically say ur starting again and shouldnt expect much in the next 2 seasons anything would be a bonus. But its down to you mate, i personally would set out alot of questions on how can i motivate this cock ect and then come up with an answer, if you cannot come up and tick every box stick to your young birds!
  6. alot of successful fanciers flag there pigeons, but when your pigeons are right they shouldnt need flagging
  7. sounds like a scalping, they may grow back they may not! ive seen cases so bad that you can litterally see the bone on the head! Horrible site to see

  11. remember about year and half ago, was mucking about in the lfot with a cup of tea in hand, i left the cup half full of tea in one of my widowhood cocks nest boxes while i was doing something else at a lower level, the birds where in the shed once i had finsihed what i was doing, put the cup to my mouth and finished the tea, on expection on the bottom of the cup was a piece of pigeons crap! Oh my god did i gagg, it wasnt funny at the time but hell a funny when i think back about it lol!
  12. i remember about 4 yrs ago going to a loft they guy would only clean out his loft once every two years his deep litter was well high, he had rats in his lofts nesting in the deep litter, you wouldnt have known they was there untill they came out! They guy was still winning but wouldnt want my loft to be rat infested like his was

  15. nah i dont like the idea,i knew one guy who used to do this his losses were great and when visiting his loft one day the pigeons were litterally rocking on the perches he was going 75 mile twice per day. Mind you this was young birds!
  16. yes a very good fancier Stevie White of Dagenham used to send hens to race home to lay there second egg and boy did it work he would top the fed on many occassions using this! I done it once didnt top the fed was 2nd fed beaten by a decimal, and also broke my novice status on my own sending in this manner.Right or wrong its worked for me many times before now!

  18. the thing is crosses are very successful if you bring in a good cross, has to be the right line alot of research has to be done, if the two put together right its like a boiling pot full of soup, and the ingredients make it all tasty. I do crosses apon crosses to make my own gene pool.my lefebre dhaenens have crossed well with Frank Tasker birds, marcellis birds, Kirkland birds, Curtis wall and lunt birds, and many others cant even think at moment
  19. Have to say a huge thank you to The Fifer, Archie, as today he sent me down two cracking young birds a white that looks like a cock and a gay blue pied hen that has a tuft on its head which havent seen alot in pigeons of these colours mainly the old ko niplius pigeons i have seen. Archie is a true gent in the sport and shows there is some real genuine people as he paid for the transport of the birds as well which i felt was really nice of him, defaintly a true gent in the sport :) :) :)
  20. they can also catch it and you will find the yellow stuff secreting from there bottom, eyes nose and mouth when things get really really bad!
  21. its quiet common ppl dont realise they have canker untill its too late!
  22. to me its gone to far? But i would treat with flagyll or rondizole!
  23. never train during racing unless there really of the edge
  24. spot on!
  25. yes i think you are being a concerned father/mother onb this issue! But pigeons with grit you have to be careful they can over take it,but a pigeon will only take what it needs. Fresh grit must be supplied every day or daily. All you do is you put a pinch of grit every day in the birds nest boxes, or if you feed the grit on the floor put it in an old pickstone pot about half a handful, grit once gets dusty pigeons will not touch it so regulary change it
