Thanks for putting this up, just been on the phone to my Dad and he is going to get in touch with some of the family to see if they are interested in getting it back? Think they put a trophy into the Doo Club which they called the Flora McDonald Cup in honour of their win. The Anderson Bros lived in Shieldhill near Falkirk, don't know much else about them apart from being told they had won the National. I suppose it being the last National before the Second World War started meant that there would have been no more racing before it came to an end? Would be good to know if the Bros went off to War as so many others did and if they survived to continue racing after the War ended?

Try West Country Pigeon Products they are in Stroud near to to, think they have a website, but if you are stuck I can ask around for you from the guys in my club to see if they have anything lying around? Or you can go to Birmingham, there is Cosworth Stud Feeds and Mark Evans shop within a mile of each other, but give them a call before you go to check they have what you need. Or, you could go to Welsh Spring Fair and you will get one there. Or go up to Gloucester and District Clubhouse tomorrow at 11-30 there is a breeder buyer sale on there, someone will be able to point you in the right direction.

Well, I have not treated for it this year so far, but their droppings certainly don't show any signs of Para?! Thanks for the advice.

That might well be the case. Did you manage to repair them after they got injured?

They were out for a fly yesterday, and before that, last weekend for a fly and a bath.

I had a bird drop from the air today like a stone, miss the trap and hit the slabs, on going up the garden to have a look I could see she was in trouble with the bones on one side sticking up a lot more than the other wing. Tried to put it back into place but no luck, I can feel it clicking but don't think it is broken. Can anyone please give me some advice? Thanks, W.D.

Try Jim Mc Beath of Avonbridge, think he had some from there?

Hi Lewis, long time since I heard from you. I just think that it's a great pity that we give more credit to the foreign strains than our own ones, how long has Jan Arden been dead? Yet his name still lives on through his birds, but some articles say he didn't have a strain as such. But here in living memory are a family still together! But hey that's how it goes!
-
There was no mention of cost in advert, maybe 2 or 3 could share them between them and keep the family going? We pay lots of money for foreign birds which aren't even a proper strain or family, yet these birds have been scoring in the worst weather that Scotland and the channel could throw at them for too many years to mention. Its a shame that they are just going to go the way of a lot of our old families and disappear forever.

I see in the BHW that his family of birds are looking for a new home again. Is there no one in Scotland willing or able to bring them back north of the border again? It would be a shame to see them be broken up after all these years.

I once asked a unc flyer the same questions and he told me that 2 of the good flyers he knew did the following, 1,flew the first 4 races celibate, then paired up for the channel races, counting back so they would be on a small yb going to their main race. 2,the other flew natural for the first 4-6 races then flew widowhood for the channel races. Both men had good results, which one was better can't say? I can only tell you what I do myself,or try to. I try to pair as late as possible and get them fit flying around the loft before pairing up,missing the April races and start in May. Our 1st channel race is end of May so they might only have 2-3 inland races before they go. The problem with plans and natural flying is if like this year we had a holdover nearly every channel race,by the time they came back the cock sitting had risen or the hen didn't want to on returning. I ended up splitting the whole lot for 2 weeks then repairing for the following channel race. Hope this helps?

Has anyone replaced the handle on one of them? Been looking at it but don't want to make a mess of it as there doesn't appear to be an easy way of getting it off?

What's Rab Baird supposed to have done?

Would just like to say well done for supplying bicycles to one of the teams at the Commonwealth Games, for free! There was an article in our local paper about this yesterday, and bbc news did a bit on it this morning. Great gesture Billy. :scotland

Think it might have been me who mentioned the ban on libs on the 14th? But I certainly didnt inform the RPRA,the only reason I mentioned it was to help avoid a bad race.I even contacted the SNFC years ago when they flew Rheims to stop them liberating on a sunday morning because of all the birds flying across them, didnt do any good though, and it was a bad race, with quite a fair few birds ending up in Belgium and Holland that time.
-
I hope not either, take it that the site agent wasn't there or he wouldn't have been too happy,or you just might not get back in next year?! That aside Good Luck to All,they have been long enough sitting there.

Its because of all the erractic races they have had in the past, they could only put it down to all the radar, etc used by the Defence Systems leading up to the big parade on the 14th through Paris, with lots of heads of state, etc. present, especially anyone liberating birds from around the Paris area were experiencing some disasters of races on otherwise good days. The French Union decided to stop liberating on this day in the late 90s,dont know when the ban was applied for other countries. Hopefully you are far enough away not to be affected if you do decide to go tomorrow morning?

It used to be down at the canal basin,on Rue Marichal Leblanc, just down from ''FRED'' the gardening/lawnmower shop. Re momday lib, there used to be a ban on all pigeon libs within France on Bastille Day?? With good reason I may add?!!
