  1. Not noticed it on our rings, but when distributing them I was only checking the ring number for allocation purposes.
  2. Having just read your blog thread, I now know the reason for your question. I would agree with you that the bloodlines are very important for distance racing.
  3. It was good enough in years gone by for racing and breeding. I'm sure we all know the benefits of line breeding, but we have to be strict with culling undesirables. The problem is how many are good enough stockmen to pick out the undesirables. The other modern day problem is the proliferation of BOP which make it so much harder to distinguish between a good pigeon and a lucky one.
  4. Good morning all.
  5. Heard of some hopper feeding them to International racers and topping up with mixture. Blaz used to use them, but he stated you had to keep an eye on the pigeons weight because they could overeat.
  6. Good morning all.
  7. Orders to the SHU for June.
  8. Correct!!!
  9. Somebody in China.
  10. They are manufactured in China was the information I was given when I asked the question.
  11. I've had complaints about them already, so will bring it up at the next council meeting, once again. Pretty rough around the edges.
  12. Could never afford the pouters when I was a lad in Glasgow. I flew fantails, tumblers and homers. I soon found out if they were caught in by the pouter men then they would catch them every time I let them out. A bag of maize was all my pocket money after feeding my own doos, so they were kept in for at least a week then taken to be swapped for something that would hopefully not be caught. I also found that letting them all out at the same time helped a little. Racers were just something I looked at when visiting my uncle or walking to the pictures. I knew nothing about them until my family moved to Kilwinning, which at that time was a hotbed for racers.
  13. I was told they had done this colour before, but certainly, if they have, it was before 2010.
  14. Some place in China that bought the old Happsleigh equipment when they upgraded. They sell the rings cheaper than Happsleigh.
  15. Happy birthday.
  16. Good morning all.
  17. Excellent read. Pity these days are gone.
  18. My nephew who lives in Belgium collects them. He has quite a few old wooden cased Toulet type clocks. He says they are collectors items. It was he who told me about the new ETS systems sometime back, must be at least 9 / 10 years ago. He also collects and refurbishes old cars.
  19. Bred and exhibited Boxers for years Walter. I always knew you were a good sort.
  20. I don't know what savings you have by buying it at Blackpool, but I used to get mine from Hyperdrug and I'm sure they offered a chilled delivery pack for a little extra cost. I now get mine from Retford and they send it out chilled as standard.
  21. I know for a fact that some fanciers vaccinate with vaccine which has not been kept chilled when sent out to them. This is a suppliers' problem and they should insist on the proper distribution method even if it costs a little more for the cool bag and slightly larger package. I then know of fanciers who do not store their vaccine in a fridge as indicated on the instructions. I also know of fanciers who use vaccine after its first use and outwith the two / four hour period. I also know of fanciers who use vaccine which is past its use by date. These are fanciers' problems and this incorrect use could be a cause of PMV / Salmonella arising within their lofts. Whether any of these factors encourage YBS, I do not know, but whilst fanciers use vaccines not licensed or prescribed within this country, not withstanding their indiscriminate use of medicines, and the incorrect use of the aforementioned vaccines, I do not think they are qualified to state the cause for YBS. They may have very good guesses at the cause, but they will not have scientific proof.
  22. Welcome to the site.
  23. Good morning all.
  24. Pouters, figuritas and fantails, what is the common link? None of them normally spend overnights with others from strange lofts while waiting to be released. None of them normally goes through the stress of avoiding the BOP whilst racing home. I presume none of them are normally vaccinated against PMV or Paratyphoid / Salmonella. None of them are normally medicated to within an inch of their lives. Where are they similar to racers? I presume they all do mix with other pigeons and all are bothered by BOP around their home lofts. It has been mentioned that some keep them with their racers and are still not affected. Does this come down to a natural immunity? If so, why do racers not have that natural immunity? Is it because they are routinely vaccinated and medicated?
