Identifying weaknesses ......... much is said about pigeons and how to try and improve them but what about ourselves! Have you perhaps identified a weakness in your system that you hope to rectify this coming season?

I go into every season and believe my team are capable of winning and winning big. I take it upon myself as a fancier to get the winning out of them. 100% commitment is what win races, doubt your pigeons and I cant see how you can do this. I’ve won sprint races with pigeons all shapes and sizes, snipe’y looking ones, ones with wish-washy eyes, long legged ones, ones that handle like a ball of knotted string & some that are darn right ugly. What I’m saying is if they don’t conform to a certain type don’t think they’re not capable of winning. Go for it, live the dream

C’mon lets get real, there’s people indirectly advertising their pigeons on both sites and paying nowt. Look out for them and you’ll see them, 95% of their posts are what they’re winning, how many firsts they’ve won, what pigeons they’re racing. Fishing I think you could call it.

If after a couple of days of weaning a y/bird you notice it blinking slowly or its eyelids seem to be drooping... dunk its head in the drinker...its not found the drinker!

The winter months gives plenty time for thoughts on how the darkness is best approached lol and come spring be none the wiser. Would it be more beneficial to have them witness a normal dawn like your intending? would it be more beneficial for them to be able to roost and witness sunset? Would either way make any difference as both are unnatural whatever way you want look at it. I open my y/bird shed up after the w/hood cocks have been exercised & fed, this has the benefit that the y/birds droppings can be checked undisturbed, stops the yearlings from seeing life in that loft and wanting to get back in there instead of exercising, once I've opened them up I haven't got to visit the lofts again allowing the w/hood cocks to rest for a good few hours.

Cant remember a season where I felt I was ready, cant see why this one should be any different ;D I think I'll be as ready as the next person but the weather will dictate whether I train let alone send to the first race(April 12th) or not. We're supposed to be in for a spell of below average temperatures and cold northerly winds for the next couple of weeks.

Birds recognise distress calls of other birds, if you cannot find a sparrows distress call try a thrush's or blackbirds.

The surface of the clay nestbowls they make now are very slippery, the nestfelts help keep the nest intact.
