Colin, get a few like minded fanciers in your fed and between you donate a points trophy for all to race for. If you believe the winner of this trophy is the best flier in the fed go shake their hand and tell them so. My personal view is points should determine the best flier.

You saying putting bacca in the nests I recall an old timer telling me he used to collect all he's dogends and put them in a pal of water. He used to spray he's lofts out with this as well as spraying he's roses, said it kept all the bugs away.

David, is it at all possible that a pigeon that is deficient of a certain vitamin or trace element would overeat to try to balance out its bodily needs.

Report them as strays to the union, that way you'll find out who's name the pigeons/rings were registered to then take it from there.

I'm sure I read somewhere that a hen has a certain amount of Ovum, once all these are used she'll never lay another egg that'll hatch.

I think the fairest way is to do away with prize money altogether and if you do want to race for money have a gamble on the pools, noms etc. A small team flier would be on equal terms as the mob flier this way by racing the same amount of pigeons for the money.
