Hello Sapper You are correct about the ring numbers and maybe in future i will put them on, i have always been worried about security hence the reason why they are left off, but as you say maybe the customer would be happier to see the number. Pender As regards to the original comment we have the same family as the pigeons he is selling Jan Theelen. If you pair two reds together you normally have 1 Red and 1 cheq. The reds always sale very quicly but the cheqs and blues dont seem so popular, but to answer the question if you pair a blue with a cheq they will not thro a red so i suppose that answers your question. Rose/Ace Selling pigeons is a difficult game and ofcourse its all based on trust and thats why we are trying to do everything the right way. But on the other hand buying pigeons can be even more difficult and there are many who take advantage. We are not trying to make a quick buck, were trying to set up something specail for the long term and to do that your customers must come first. Last week Richard Grayson a very good fancier from Lancaster said to me that he was so happy with the pigeons we sent him last year that he wouldnt ever buy a pigeon from anywhere else, and its endorsements like that, that let you know youre on the right track. A pigeon can be expensive but a reputation is priceless. Stuart

Bruno Unfortunitly the first couple of races can be a lottery, for some reason on certain early races they come out of the Basket, fly round for hours and then get picked off by hawks or go down exusted. My advice would be to keep um training send 25% for the first too or three weeks and then slip the rest in as you go along. When everybodies youngsters are coming well i find it easier to jump a cuople in each week regardless of the distance. Hope that helps. Stuart

Hello Wings I agree that roaming is an excellent way for pigeons to stimulate there homing ability and yb teams that roam for over an hour seldom experience big losses!!! To the other lads what i was also trying say was if you train early you miss all the conjestion. I must have seen 50+ batches in the air yesterday all mixing up and going off line. I think there just all getting mixed and when they tire the hawk blasts into them and scatters them everywhere! Stuart Wilcox

A great gesture Alf, im sure Mr Cowan was looking in from above with imense pride. Yours Stuart Wilcox

Lads The reasen so many ybs are lost is we now breed at christmas and January and come July they placed in a basket, yet they have developed without having there homing instinct stimulated! Its to late and add to this the number of pigeons in the air and the heat and are asking for trouble. YBs need to trained at 12 weeks old, its when they are most able to learn and it develops there homing ability at a early age. To many people leave it till 2 weeks before the first race and come a cropper!! Stuart

For a number of weeks I have been monitoring a Dutch Internet Auction site and I have noticed a few irregularities with regard to how it’s operated. Pigeons are placed on the site with a starting bid of 50 euros, bids come in but you never see who has placed a bid! Each auction has a period of maybe 7 or 14 days and at the end its presumed sold. However 1 or 2 months later the pigeons are again placed on the site and offered for sale. Internet Auctions aren’t currently covered by any regulations but it leads me to ask the following questions. 1. Are the bids placed by the administrator of the site purely to simulate interest in the pigeon! 2. Is there a hidden reserve on the pigeon and the administrator bids to that amount hoping that someone will bid higher and buy the birds. 3. Is the Administrator/Owner trying to increase the value of the stock by bidding high prices on his own pigeons. I called the administrator of the site and asked why the pigeons were being re-sold and he said its because they had not been payed for but this is the 4th time they have offered along with many other pigeons as well. In reality im sure this Internet site is trying to achieve all three. There are some very genuine sites on the internet so isn’t it time we try to regulate how they operate? Stuart

Andrew Why are you selling all these pigeons off? On others posts you have referred to them as your best breeding birds and now you cant do enough to give them away, maybe this is why people are alittle confused and not buying them. They are undoudtabley well bred and De Klaks are very popular, we sold 20+ from last weeks advert!! I hope you dont take offence to my comment! Stuart

I have sent out nearly 800 pigeons in the last 12 months and touch wood i havnt had a problem, in saying that the Bristol branch is very good and at Christmas i bought the driver a bottle of wine to say thank you so now he is me best mate. The trick is to get to know your driver and the depot manager and you should find you get a lot more help and respect. Regards Stuart

If you were looking to compete every year from 500-550 miles North or South would you adopt Widowhood or Natural or a combination remembering that there are often day birds from this distance. It seems to me more and more fanciers are returning to Natural flying for long distance which i know suits 2 day races but you have to think that 50% of long distance winners are timed on the day! So do you go for the system that "MIGHT" get you one home on the night (widowhood) or the system that will give 10 home the next day (natural) and a great team performance. Ofcourse you time natural pigeon on the day as well!!! Stuart
