Myself and Raymond Moleveld are planning to have a stand at Blackpool this year!!! I wondered if anyone was interested in making it a meeting place for all the member of pigeonbasics? we could set up a table with some info on it to promote the website and we always have a full fridge and coffee machine on the boil!!! Does anybody think it will be a good idea??? It would be nice to meet everyone in person???? Stuart Wilcox

Aye we have a name Aitken, and his first name is? Some people always hide behind an alias and then they find it easy to say what they want!!!! Maybe the webmaster should change his username to actual name and then he would learn a little respect. Stuart

Its true that in Holland the use of ETS can mean some flyers taking the first 30 positions but being that the ETS is just an extention to a clock it can be switch off!

Pigeon Man as yearling he disappeared when Paul treid to slate him (he spent 3 months up the roof of my old house paired to a hen) and last year Paul didnt breed off him because at that point he hadn't won anything, there are 2 young from him in the team this year, they are both still, sorry its boring but its the truth!!!! Stuart

Thanks for the kind words Nigel! I wish success with the Cock and it was very nice to meet you. Stuart

I think a little common sense helps everybody enjoy there racing, we were in a position to take the first 10 last week but we only clocked 2 pigeons, this week we won it on a decimal so maybe god was a happy man with our good deed. Club flying is all about enjoyement and Nationals are made for competition. If you are good enough to take the first 10 then club flying should be the last place to claim your glory!!!!!! Stuart

Bristol Kev Your suggestion is by far the easiest and most practical!!! The first 4 race weekends for youngbirds the RPRA make a rulling that South road pigeons fly on one day and north road pigeons fly on another, no reason at all why it couldnt work!!!! The other thing we could have is a single national co-ordinator on race days!!!! Stuart
-
Thats a good post and you do raise some interesting points! I would certainly agree that many more pigeons are kept these days without seeing a race basket which in term will result in a deminished homing ability but i believe you need to add, changing weather patterns, mobile phones and most all hawks to the arguement and to be honest they all add to it being alot harder for our young pigeons these days. On another point i started racing pigeon as a 6 year old in 1979 and the first race was from Worcester when 70% of the youngbirds were lost! In 1980 we flow south and from the 2nd race which was from Portsmouth on a lovely sunny day only 30 pigeons from 550 made it home on the day in the club so to me young bird racing hasnt changed that much and you can sometimes forget what happened in the past. The one big difference is that once birds are lost they rarely work in and thats down to 2 things 1) Traffic as many young pigeons are ran over just look at the sides of the motorway 2) Peregrines and Hawks, there is nothing easier to catch than a tired young bird. Regards Stuart Wilcox

I know it wont be much consolation to you but im sure these birds will have a chance to work in. Firstly the Temperature has dropped so the birds wont suffer to much in the Heat and with the little bit of rain we have had they should get a drink, im sure many of them are still hanging around the race point. I believe most combines/feds experience a funny race yesterday as atmospheric conditions wern't good for racing. When the flying ants come out to play pigeons will always be away!!! Im sure pigeons will return Stuart

Sounds like a call to Accident Direct!!!

I had a few (pm's) about the identity of the Scottish guy and suprise suprise everyone of them was correct!!!!! Stuart

If it is who i think it is!!! The man purchased a pair of older birds from me last October for £300 (the hen of the pair won 17th Nat Orleans 16,000b) and sold then to a guy in November for £600 telling him he was his best pair of breeder he had!!!! Not bad for 5 weeks!!!!! The guy rang me not knowing that i imported then to see if i had anything similiar and once we realised what had happened he wasnt at all happy but chose not to report him!!!!
-
Sorry lads but i dont think its really a problem not having channel flying with young birds. At least this way if there is a serious outbreak when the autumn migration comes along the fingers cant be pointed at pigeon racing. Young bird channel racing often does result in huge losses so i think we may have to except that on this occasion its the sensible ting to do! Stuart

Thanks for the info Ace, the Hagens do very well in East winds. Rose last week a man called me to say that he was starting up and could you buy a pair or two, i told him that if he wasnt so experienced that he would be better off buying a few cheaper pairs and that what he did. I drove two hours this morning to meet him so that i could explain to him what he was buying as he wanted long distance birds and as i told him they arnt always easy pigeons to handle. We talked for hour about what he was doing etc as he is a real novice. I was amazed when he then told me that he had agreed to buy 2 Van Loon squekers from a man in Scotland for £400 each. I soon told him that for this priced you would want more than just squekers, he is going to fax me the details laters and a copy of the pedigrees, i told him that i would be honest and tell him whether or not he was being ripped off or not!! Stuart

Thanks for your comments Ace and Rose!!!! Rose if possible i always say to people i will meet them Half way in the car and i will bring a basket full of pigeons and they can pick there own as thats the way i would do it too! I also research results prior to a purchase and we do make that type of information available. Ace, the Hagens have been doing very well for alot of people!! They are much like the Theelen (Theelen is the base of Hagen) in the fact that the Reds are first to sell yet the Blues and Cheqs can sometimes be much the better pigeons and often dont get picked off by the Hawks. The Hagens and Theelen are doing very well into Ireland so they must be quite a hard pigeon. Cheers Stuart

Dave Brown the Bristol Auctioneer is selling everything at Paulton Nr Bristol on Sept 24th. Dave spent a fortune last season and only purchased proven pigeons, such as the Dream Hen and Mach "11". He had intended to build a breeding stud but a change in his personel circumstances means he must sell his house, a better team of Van Den Bosche, TBO, Janssen pigeons couldnt be found. His young bird team is one of the finest i have ever seen!!!! Its sad for us to see Dave take this action but he is faced with no other choice. Stuart Wilcox

Saturday we sent 30 and got 30 on the first race, i must say that is the first time that has ever happened to me!!!!! But on reflection that was achieved with 30 tosses, £400 of diesal, a new set of tyres and around 80 hours of driving and basketting!!! Its not an easy sport!! Stuart
