  2. slightly off the subject but thought its useful info my terrier is now 10 years old and has NEVER drunk fresh water he point blank refuses the water put down for him and drinks out of our water feature on the patio we have to keep topping it up the water feature has a green algae build up but it does not bother the dog and hes as fit as a fiddle and if you saw him you would think hes about 3 years old, i now do same with birds and just top up the drinkers and since doing this i have had no health problems with the birds at all

  4. have used it but its very expensive your better off buying a good canary or budgie mix in bulk as it works out loads cheaper(excuse the pun)
  5. pm me your phone number and i can help you out i know who it is you are after
  6. wayne i have used a t3 as a master at our clockstation in the mnfc for the last 6 years no problems at all hope this helps
  7. no problems at all with this years moult she has gone through it as normal it was this time last year when she damaged the flights
  8. once you are sure the feather has stopped growing you can quite safely pull it out and the bird will grow a new one with no adverse effects at this time of year, it happened with one of my hens last winter she damaged last 2 flights when trying to dodge a sparrowhawk i had no choice but to pull them otherwise she could not race she rewarded me by getting 8th section in nfc from alencon so there you go proof that you have got time to rescue the situation
  9. I started when one friday my cousins husband came and asked me if i could time his birds in on the saturday as he had to work and his dad was away i was 11 at the time and did not have a clue what it involved anyway he took me up to the loft and gave me a brief demo on what i had to do then took me up to the club for marking i was completly hooked from that moment on, saturday could not come quick enough i was at the loft hours before i needed to be waiting with excitement i was then shouted at by fancier at top of the street that birds should be here soon by now i was shaking and then i seen 2 birds coming straight down the road towards me! i started shaking the tin as i was told and shouted at them they both landed on the drop board and went in i was like linford christie and was in the loft after them this is where it went wrong(or so i thought) i could not tell which pigeons were which and after what seemed an eternity i found them took the rubbers off and put them in the clock and came out of the loft chuffed to bits the old boy up the street shouted you took to long mate never mind. The afternoon went on and i just kept clocking them in as i knew no different then my cousins husband arrived from work and said that the old boy up the street had told him i was too slow and had lost a lot of time he said not to worry as i would get faster. we went up the club to hear the clocks read off it was then that my cousins husband tapped me on the shoulder and said its going to be close pity you lost so much time anyway it came to reading his clock out and everybody looked up when the first one was read out he turned to me laughing and said you wernt that b****y slow were you we have won it but have cost us second place. from that day on pigeons have been part of my life
  10. If its the quartz model its battery powered not a wind up you need to open up the clock and check the batteries, theres a battery indicator button inside just press it and the green light will come on if the batteries are ok I change the batteries every season and only use good quality ones such as duracell other thing to check is the quality of the printout as it might need a new ink ribbon for the three way test other than that they are good reliable clocks

  15. some years ago i had the same problem and took the pigeon to our vet and was lucky to be seen by a south african who specialised in birds he showed me what to do. basically use a needle that is hollow ie one that you use for vaccinating make sure its sterilised then gently insert the needle under the skin and you will hear the air escaping just be careful and dont insert the needle to deep you may have to repeat the process a couple of days later dont use a normal needle as once you remove it the air cant escape it worked a treat for me and since then have done the process for a mate of mine with no problems
  16. use wound powder or purple spray both are used a lot in the horse world both brilliant for pigeons as well you can get them from countrywide stores
  17. yet another cock up by the mnfc i can give you a list as long as your arm and we had problems 2 years ago with the old hens race will they ever learn? it seems to me that running these races in conjunction with one another is causing to many errors to occur and it needs sorting
  18. A few years ago i moved about ten miles and broke all the birds old and young with the exception of five old cocks and it only took two weeks. I followed the advice of Bill Carney and trained all the birds from the new location as often as i could before actually moving there bills theory was if they knew the way from the new location back to the original loft they would also know the reverse route once they had been relocated. It worked a treat for me and the first time i let them out sure enough yhey headed for the old place but and the end of the day most had come back like he said they would and in two weeks they had settled to the new place.
  19. im halfway between stratford and nottingham its fine here high broken clouds with sunshine and a brisk westerly wind you should have a good race
  20. thanks for the positive comments lads also forgot to mention that at our clockstation we even hire out a club T3 if required if it makes life easier and the clock setting fees are donated back to the club to help keep our club running. I think the sport could do more to help itself and retain members. Last season as chairman of the Coventry fed I was slated for giving our old transporter away to another fed in return for the promise of 30 yougsters to sell this season, but it was going to cost us £20 a week just to store it. This year we sold the youngsters and got far more than the transporter would have sold for so all in all both feds have benifited as the saying goes you reap what you sow.
  21. having run a clock station for a number of years there are a number of reasons as to why they are sometimes few and far between and i have to say the main reason is ungrateful and inconsiderate fanciers who dont realise that the clocksetters do the job mainly for pleasure and not for money. There is nothing worse than sitting waiting for people to reurn their clocks and getting no phone call to say they are not bothering or have not timed in. Also i have waited till 11pm at night got home then get phone call from irate fancier asking me why i am not at clock station. At my clock station we go out of our way to help the working fancier iepicking up clocks at marking stations and arranging pick up of them on sat mornings if it helps
  22. I think you will find that linells have just bought out the junior company so they will have us by the short and curlies.
  23. mike i agree with you it was aired on the other site its just that i am sick of hearing that it was a testing race when clearly it was not and sometimes it would be better for all if the facts were laid on the table. and comments from the mnfc press officer regarding long distance racing is not for the feint hearted do not help the situation as i am sure you will agree. In my eyes and many others a 250 mile race is not a long distance race and such comments as taking up knitting is insulting to the membership however i will not be commenting on the race again as whats done is done regards stan
  24. mick its nice to see that someone agrees with me over the last mnfc race and its not sour grapes on my part as i am only one short but in our area loads are still missing and the birdage figures back this up but i still think that they will be very wary about liberation this time out
  25. just returned from mnfc marking birdage down on last race by 2000+ so maybe now they will admit how bad the last race instead of saying it was a testing race and i bet they think hard and long about liberation this time
