So, lets say I have 10 pigeons to sell. I contact the BHW with their details, and tell them I want colour photos of each one, and can they run the advert until the birds are sold......make it free for people to view my advert......give it a worldwide audience ( again free )....certainly, they say........so lets all guess how close to £25.00 they will charge. Get real !!!!!!

As usual, it's all very simple. If you don't like the price, don't pay it !! Sell your belongings somewhere else, where the rate is better. Personally, I think it's really good value for money. Go to the BHW, and you won't get half a column for £25.00, and that's a one off advert.

Agreed. This is another aspect where the various governing bodies should get more involved.

As regards the price of birds, and their ceiling.....it's as others have stated, it depends on what people are willing to pay. Good luck to those who earn a living selling pigeons, be they fancier or not. Remember, the high prices they ask, are simply based on the fact that someone will be willing to pay it. Having been out of work now for the best part of a year, money is scarce, and with me hoping to make a come-back to racing early next year, it has been difficult to look at birds priced at £X each . But, you know what......and it aint rocket science....I simply don't buy them, because I can't afford them, but why should someone drop their price for me when the guy standing beside me can and will happily give that sort of money ? No brainer !!

So the membership has no access to see how the fund is managed ?

If the fund is mainly from a member source, be it cash donation or birds donated for sale, why can the balance not be viewed by all members , thus keeping it transparent to all ?

Not so sure Michael Buijk was Marijn or Martha Van Geel's loft manager. They were great friends for many years, and Michael obtained many, many birds from the Van Geels. Michael would be the first to tell you his Van Geels are so inbred they need to be crossed, preferably to another Jan Aarden line.
