  1. i've seen me putting a bowl into a bird thats a bit too overkeen with his hen,i tend to put the bowl in one corner and a piece of 3x3 timber 6 inches long in the other corner so the hen can get up out the road of the cock,he soon gets the message and soon calls her to the bowl,i've seen me do this on the first day
  2. i personally took a glancing look at these birds because they would never interest me in the first place because i can remember him from when he was down in the horseshoe, this time though from what i saw the birds apart from the rollers/tipplers or whatever breed they were from what i can remember were predominantely white and looked very dirty, but idid notice a trough of feeding if you could call it that on 1 crate but no water and the indian fantails at the end of the stalls tails were emerald green probably with not being fed,now what worries me is that there is a few media groups that cover the show national and independent and god help our image if this stall was filmed for future broadcasting.i like the majority on the site was probably wise after the horse had bolted if you get my meaning
  3. timed of of his kipp line to score in the snfc eastbourne race 400mls in 2009
  4. was also impressed with marimans especially the petite french racing mix. The varimax that i've heard quite a few raving about i wasn't that taken on with jmo

    Frank

tried you aswell frank,it tells me no can doo
  17. frank i was always told that the easiest thing to do in pigeon racing is put a bird in the basket and the hardest was to put a winning pigeon in the stock loft and i know cos i've done it umpteen times and whats the end result 99% of the time there's always that bridge too far and a good pigeons lost (greed for that 1 more performance) anyway thanks for everyones input i'm off to bed some of us have work in the morning (sleeping)(sleeping)(sleeping)
  18. agree 100% frank cross the offspring right away but as i have never done a brother / sister pairing i thought i would ask the question before going headfirst into the unknown but how many fanciers breed a good line of birds and then 5/6 years down the line there all gone and the old question comes into the head "why didn't i keep half a dozen y/b's off that pair" well thats what i done, once it became clear thatt i had hit onto something good i l put away to stock later bred youngsters exactly the same way bred as the way the birds that were winning for me in racing, imo its not winner to winner it's the bloodlines of winners that come to the fore
  19. frank you could have 10yrs + breeding in these young birds if you intend to keep them for stock so whats the harm in breeding brother/sister together then outcrossing the youngbirds the following year that way the youngsters off the brother /sister pairing will be as close as you get imo to the old cock and if it don't work then at least you've tried and on an earlier post it says most fanciers on the continent cross their birds where does most of the problems we incur originate from jmo
  20. hi frank not been back on that long but i've read all the posts and great comments are forthcoming i applaud what you are trying to do and hope you reach your objective but 99% of my winners i'll admit have been crosses but have 1 common denominator and that is they can be traced back to my base pair on 1 side as as probably the case in your old cock my old pair now deceased were very scarce in pedigree so you can probably call what i hit on pure luck that is why i posted the question if anyone had any luck as racers with offspring from a brother /sister pairing or maybe i should have asked would they be better off in the stock loft and by the way on the pedigrees of my base pair there are no mention of winners just ring numbers and they were bought on the basis that they took my eye and were in boxes on that basis only
  21. i'll just get a loan of one of the old houben cock then john that'll save me any bother (happy)(happy)(happy)
  22. you can be lucky with a pair picked up in blackpool 2 birds bought in 2 different years put together bingo thats my experience by the way they only cost £80 the pair (wiseman)
  23. i agree pigeon man all my stock birds are in the main brothers and sisters to pigeons that have won for me over the years they all came out of a base pair that are responsible for over 20 x 1st some pigeons winning more than one first hence the stock birds are carrying the same genes as the winning birds that was the reason for my question,if brother/sister were paired together would it give a stronger pool of winning genes
  24. falkirk/camelon hardly west is it considering i'm in grangemouth and fly in the east so where are the fanciers that live in these areas when their getting the doos into the central area
  25. been following this thread with interest and i'm open to correction but is there not fanciers that fly in falkirk/camelon with the midland fed that are members of the west sect
