Why are the continentals way out in front of UK

Don't believe that the one loft race has the best birds, certainly not as yet. Indeed often they are the 'Untried' birds. Agreed some do sent their best to what is in reality a 'Lottery'. hate to put a figure on it, but a very high % are not even bred by the Fancier / syndicate that enters them. Then a lot of reserves get put in. Further one can buy a bird to be entered, and some have done well vis this method. Likewise, just looking at the Belgium birds over the last - say 5 years in the Sun City races, and one see's that they are fair to middling at best. -

Well why does one advocate Noon Libs’. Must be one hell of an off putting to any genuine Distance race guy, especially those that do, and have created a family to compete on hard days, and the distance. Surely it’s a farce and a smack in the face for them! Yes of course it is said that it is so no bird’s can or will cross the channel! This is what the birds actually need to do, cross the channel etc. and HAVE every help and chance of being it’s loft, home by night fall. The more truthful side is simply a good middle distance bid can be held up with the true distance bird and hop over the water to time in. This purely to lessen any chance that a good distance may have had of achieving a good result! Next day is different conditions. Muscles tired and cold need sorting. And they have 150 to 300 miles or more than the South coast birds, and then the east coasters. A travesty engineered purely for middle distance getting an unfair advantage. Another reason, surely, why the nationals, and internationals are not very well attended. -

Have to agree so much with a few of the above posts, especially Pau. the simple logic, akin to part of Swilcox says about the racing struture, is that we should be doing what I have advocated for years and still hap on. 'Little children help mummy'! All clubs part of Feds, good, then in turn part of Algam, then again part of Combines / Sections and then every other week at least part of a NATIONAL concern. The MNFC farce should be part of the NFC flying cly for instance. North roader again ALL be part of the Great North Rd. Combine Scetions, and then the NRCC. Or visa versa in reality. Cheaper racing, better transporters etc. etc. and ABOVE ALL deserved merit acheivable most weeks. Especially as the wind may well be right for many others, say an east in it. No more crap scenario that No Liberation' in adverse winds - to aplease the more fortunate. If weather fine, then up they go! Each season more deservedly fanciers would gain a little merit. Soon flyers would be looking at the 'Bigger picture' and saying... 'Well I think I'll have a go... OK no chance of the International, even the National most probably... But I might...just maybe... and at least I gain the merit in a decent section result! More fly for merit. Most fly know it is the 'lue moon' syndrone chance of winning a big one. But if each week, or most, and at no extra cost, indeed less costs, more will automatically be in with a shout! -
Frank I keep harping on that tune... seems no one is concerned enough to be personally involved, but like most things, would love some one else to do it for them. All Clubs should raise funds and buy a pair. Same as all feds. Local 'Owl Fraternity, would help etc. Or the local Game Keeper. So what if the odd one escaped... that can't be helped I suppose, can always be replaced.

Very true, and sadly to the detrimental to the sport, the fanciers and the very essence and merits of our Fancy / Hobby / Sport what have you! -
Why are the continentals way out in front of UK
Roland replied to Michael J Burden's topic in Notice Board
The worst part is only a few bother to contest. Likewise our So called nationals are a joke in reality when Feds, Combines etc. send vastly superior numberss ! And that is the crying shame. No incentive here to waste money, time and effort bolstering others coffers. BETTER SPENT ON FEED AND TRAINING! -
Why are the continentals way out in front of UK

I.B. says and I quote '... So we don't have big UK names competing in 'big UK Nationals' with their own 'UK strain names'. In my opinion that's the field / shop window that's missing for UK pigeons. So you can't really advertise something you don't have ... More to the point is that the 'Name / Strain' sell the product. Now the mere fact that a British flyer has cultivated a great distance strain, and honed it to great precision, may well give the fancier a bit of merit... but he will sell more with a Belguim / Holland / Netherlands whatever name. That is a sad reality. One must understand too, that the climate, and roads etc. - especially ireland - are far more ardeous than what most continent birds have to live with and attest to. So even if and when a 'Continental' strain is cultivated, it is and has been done by the Brit! No two ways about that. Like the Brizilians / etc. in football, playing the same weather, hard pitches etc. in heat. they take time to acclimatise... possibly would never live in an old british devision. Yes we have acclimatise- the continentals to there 'Game' and not the other way around. May be fool hardy on an international stage not to. I pigeons we have to adapted the birds to our climate, race program... and can't evaluate, or race the same as the continentals do. But bet your bottom dollar our birds have a hardier balance and temprement, and better on the Hard day and distance. They have had to mould to it! -

Better still is to ask why the 'Continentals' changed the PAU international!!! They have , warmth, often wind and no dog legging etc. And a great story is the one when a Belguim bird and a british one were flying way a head of the rest and they wished each other sportingly good luck. 'Good luck'! says the british bird. 'Same to laughs the Belgim birds... you will need it.... I have a little warmth and a straight line, and wil be home why you are over the colder winds of the channel etc' etc. etc. Knew that Pau wouldn't last long... especially when we had such good results. Theyir attitude is no different, let alone better that the Clubs' feds etc and our National concerns with claiming and having every advantage. A wise ole fancier once commented 'They breed the biurds, but we make them great here'. Antwerp. swoop in i their thousands flying at head hieght etc. etc. JMO -
Just miserable and dull, wet, damp as usual here when all the lucky ones get snow.

Sent you a P.m. -
Stu, hopefully mine too. On here, several times, and to many others on this site, I have praised you as a better than a 'Ok' guy as a feather merchant. Yes have indeed touted - in regards of selling pigeons - Which I would never have any problem buying from you. Further that I thought, best to your ability, that you would only ever do the right thing for a buyer, and as such have never questioned your honesty. Yes indeed many on here can vouch for that. This doesn't change over night, nor by any singular fact / or piece of fiction. Hence I still believe that. I doubt we'd ever be a drinking mates, and our ways of life, and views are from apart. So I stand by this post of course. As for suing me I couldn't give a rat's *expletive removed* about that. Further this post is no way intending to have a bearing on that! One must do what they feel is right, likewise I / you live by or stand by things we have said, done, stated right or wrong. Twice now I have, sorry three times if not four I have entered into this topic. Hopefully, till I hear from the lawyers, it will be my last ... but who knows.

Great Michael, I'm not in the BICC! ;D ;D ;D And there nothing wrong whatsoever in being uncomfortable if my birds came into contact. Golly that is my first comittment in keeping - not only pigeons - but any animal / pet. That is my duty, mine and evryone else's first comittment. Yes we evaluate diffently, and most views, concerns differ of course. That in it's self nietjher makes one right or wrong. Just an awareness. But I can only speak as I see / or fear. Likewise many more. I was set back many seasons due to a bout of an ugly Pharahoid. Yes agreed my birds constition may not have been as good as they should have been because of lack of out crosses, and mating cousins etc. BUT since 2005 I've only had the odd swallow, and they certainly don't make a summer! Yes i stopped sending because some may have been carriers and not showing up. They infact - as some on here know - been eradicated. Sanitation has been collosal... many may think over the top. But believe you me, if Samonella, or any of it's side kicks take a hold, it will devastate you. Remember good constitution bird can look and handle superb, even win in the show pen...
