  1. Yes. I lost a hen last Thurso smash. She had won the scottish averages three times on her own, three times only day bird, season before last, was only day birds with two of her daughters in one club, and 2 out of three day birds inother club were also her daughters. Was retiring her this last season, indeed it would have been her last race, and it was sadly... Also lost some other proven distance birds. That was rough to say the least. I sent 10, none in race time, only 5 in Fed were in race time and 7 in the Algamation. Had two returned a few days later. Still, I was flying them all out except 3 so now have two 3 yo's I never thought I'd have - if not the others, but thats racing I guess. Yes was very lightly tossed and just two wing opening races... so all were in great condition. LIKE hundreds more I guess, and several hundreds that perhaps weren't. These of course are still lost, and only had 19 reported last count, though of course a few more now no doubt, well I'd hope.
  2. Well weren't till you 'Opened The Box' lol ;D ;D
  3. Like I say pigeons never forget.... a fallacy to think otherwise, as indeed so many of us hear tales as such regularly. Birds - outside of a smah phenomiium, are not conditioned to return, or simply not happy with the set up and bog off. Simple as that I guess. Birds, like a hen I had till this week past, flew the Thurso / Lerwicks / Bergerac, indeed last year before did two bergerac, a Thurso and Frazerbugh in a matter of a few weeks ... lost her f first chuck this last week! Go figure, and was on youngsters! Any one from above, or hawked. Had till this season a Red chequer that only once had a night out - Pau - from any race.... never got home on day, often a few days when tossed upto 40 miles... Go figure eh!
  4. Well in race season, starting soon I wash the drinkers every day and use fresh spring water - mostly as I have to travel 3 miles to fetch and Joyce finds it heavy work walking thare and back with a 5 galleon water container lol ;D ;D - sure miss some days, so leave tap water out over night .... then often empty that and send joyce to fetch some. Only fair as she said that it was wasting petrol money better spent else where, so to save money lol ... ;D ;D But takes but a jot of time to rinse out eh!
  5. So nice to be wanted, and for others to know how wanted, it makes one feel eh! ;D ;D ;D
  6. Yep, have advocated that a few times on here. Can't get immuned to that either. Worked for a Food company where rats thrived. Told the bosses how to do it as above. Twits asked rent a kill who said it was illegal and not allowed to do it. So mate did it any way, was a time when walking to the canteen - had outside walk to get there - when the women were pertrified and there were loads.... so much for rentakill. Mate put the cement down as above.... 6 Months we was privately thanked later in a much as if we had.... two faced gits, there were no rats left. And of course the Anti freeze digestive and peanut mix does great.
  7. Of course.... Natural flyers race them then.
  8. Don't think that.... but if that was a bone of contention, then a Honoury membership for a £1 a year - paid by club - would more than suffice.
  9. Feel jimmy that depends on the hardness / distance of a race. Many now indeed only race their birds every fortnight, and just two tosses that week. Feel does keep the frsh.... but must get the in first class / mint condition first. For instance 60 miles chuck, 2 - 3 times a week.... a race of 74 miles.... then a rest needed of at least five days! :-/

    lovely weather

Well went church .... only good thing was the vicar didn't turn up ... so rung a few in the belfries lol ;D ;D ;D
  11. Yes.... but thay don't exist, unless on a personal basis and and / or one has first refusal. Besides, if they are good at the distance, they will - under another system - be brilliant at the sprints, or Middle too. So one would have ripped the arm out of the shoulder socket! Ouch!
  12. Now what, if any, is the difference between a Dun and a Shallie. Personally I believe they are the same, and depends where you live / was taught.

    Frankdooman

He's not banned... nor should be lol :P But sometimes errors occur, and obviously till this one is sorted.... most likely by Richard when he is around, then he won't be able to log on. But look forward till when he can.
  14. Red shallie....

Mike your post ' .....Quoted from MIKE1957 i think you should get your facts right before you start saying its chris maidment. its people like you that stirs the sh** and gets people like him banned. is rather silly. If people like him ARE banned, and People like Albear etc. point this out, then hell in carnation can it be 'People like him getting people ALREADT BANNED banned :-/ :-/ :-/ Never took much notice, wasn't, and still not overly interested, till I see all the smoke screens and folks rallying around to defend, and put Chris in a good light - whether he is or not is totally irrelevant - I notice Numpty01 spelling, and see that it is poor, getting worse, so I am now inclined to believe - that's how you spell it Chris lol - it is Chris. Like to see him back... but like Albear properly done. The mere fact that it hasn't been resolved one way or another, is detrimental to the site.... however if another P.c. is being used owned and registered by another person may well take a day longer. But I for two, and now possibly a lot more think, believe Albear has raised valid questions.
  17. Unhulled is even better having about 79% Carbs to Polished 64% Very little protein of course. Brown, well I never bothered about which...

    Not racing

Well John, will certainly set them back a bit for the following weeks. Yearlings hate bad weather, especially any East in Wind. Further, they thrive and are far better for the sun on their backs.... Good luck to you. Me, if I was to send, would just do as a few season ole pros do.... and odd Old cock bird or hen. Justr to have a little fun, and keep the averages open like.

    Not racing

Well I'm a little glad I shalln't be racing this week - end. May is plenty early enough for me. Keeps me out of daft averages and don't lose or upset the birds in these weahers. I believe that any and All racing shouldn't start till May any way. Further, espeacially with the longer (later) Summers could well finish the y/b in early October.
  20. Yes, and again, last night before basket - for the distance thay are left to soak, then used as last feed, with a little hemp seed added.
  21. Aye, hear tale that a Scotsman is now on his 21st year by doing as above ;D ;D ;D
  22. I believe it was Jimmy.
  23. A cross betwen Billy Taylors' and my Van der Plucker. Was sold with free Leeches, and half priced wood lice.
  24. Well cheaper to travel 20 miles than pay £7. So when getting feed.... buy a box.....
  25. As posted on here. Course oatmeal 2lb milk 4 tablespoons salt 1 tablespoon Sugar 3 tablespoons Cod-l-oil 2 tablespoons Calcium fortified tablets2 Vitamin tablets crushed 6 this was many years ago, and was Stan Bishops (old hand)views on what to use in conjunction with a all bean feeding regime, although peanuts /oilseed fed at right time would do just as well for distance racing, wheat germ oil mixed with rolled oats etc turning them golden brown for a few days before would do the business as well.
